Pioneer Superdrive 105-dead

Add mine to the list-Superdrive just quit, still listed in system profile, but no sounds, no nothing with CD, DVD, Blank or otherwise.

May just try to install new one-not paying Apple to do it. Have zapped PRAM, but cannot boot from CDs to test needless to say.

Advice on replacement drives appreciated. How do we make sure it will fit and work with imac ????

We have done memory intalls previously on our good old Performa, info does not appear to be difficult on this one.

Although the drive is likely dead, you could try as a last resort,
to reset PMU since the optical drive may be part of a power
issue (or it is dead) and some hardware issues can be checked
to see if they really are dead if resetting this won't change a thing.
The power management unit reset would probably be more of an
exercise than a cure.

[But if someone asked, the reply could be yes: you tried that, too.]

Could be there is just a circuit in the optical drive that isn't working
and if that's dead, then the best route is to have some authorized
tech or read up and take your chanced, and get the drive replaced.
I seldom use the optical drive in my iMac G4 1.25 17" last model;
so some day it probably will fail. Maybe by then I'll have some
other desktop model and it won't catch me without a second spare.

PS: my computer's profile info on the optical drive shows mine
is of a later version, as shipped, than the one in yours:
