EPSON R270

Hi,
I'm trying to install the drivers for the printer Epson Stylus Photo R270.
I plug the usb on my iMac when the process indicates me, then opens a windows with a button to add the printer to printer list, and detects it, show the printer but it can't find a proper driver so it doesn't add it to the printer list.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Maxi.

Hi,
The software installer add the printer to the printer browser ( http://www.maxilucca.com.ar/epson/02.jpg); but it seems to not find the proper driver, watch the combo "Print Using:" it should show SPR270, but instead shows these ( http://www.maxilucca.com.ar/epson/03.jpg and http://www.maxilucca.com.ar/epson/04.jpg), and I've tried adding everyone the list shows but it doesn't work.

Thanks again.
Maxi.

Hi Maxi.

Just a question: where did you get the drivers from? Your OS X is obviously in English, but if you used the Epson install disc bundled with the printer, maybe a localized version (Latin American Spanish) may prevent the driver/utility to install correctly. Or they could be simply outdated. By the way, the Tiger bundled Epson drivers do not support that printer.

You should try the latest drivers for that printer from the Epson UK site:

Epson Site
Good Luck.

Hi Henry G4.

The drivers I tried are the ones that came with the printer, and it's in 3 languages. I also tried the english version.

I downloaded the drivers from Epson UK, but it asks me administrator privilegies, which I have, and stop installing.

Maybe if I try logging as root I can install the drivers.

Thanks,
Maxi.

I don't think those files could make any difference.
The classes.conf is just a sample file from the cups.conf, and its purpose is only to explain the printer classes.
About the ppds.dat, many times it's not even present. It's generated by CUPS versions prior to 1.2 I think. You'll find it in Panther and previous iterations, or in upgraded systems (leftover file).

Try repairing permissions from the Tiger install disc.

Also, in Print Utility, Reset the Printing System (you will loose all other installed printers).

If that doesn't work, and if you don't have any other Epson Printers installed, as a last resort, you can try this:

Go to /Library/Printers and move the Epson folder to the Desktop.
Go to /Library/Receipts and move the EpsonPrinterDrivers.mkpg to the Desktop.
Then try to reinstall the Epson driver from Epson UK.

If that doesn't work, you can relocate the aforementioned file & folder if you wish (they are available in the Tiger disc, anyway).

This is a tough one...there's obviously something wrong going on, it shouldn't give you all this trouble just to run the Vise installer.

Try this (and here we go again...)

Mount the disk image, and drag the installer from within the virtual disk to the Desktop.
Control-click on the Vise installer on the Desktop, Get Info, and verify that you can Read & Write, you are the Owner of the installer, that your group and others can read it.
Something like this

Then try to run it again. If it doesn't let you install it (again), open Terminal and type:

sudo Open/path of_theinstaller (you can drag & drop it on the Terminal window next to Open)
