Rename .DV files based on internal timestamp? Like "EXIF" for DV?

I have an excellent utility called "EXIF Renamed" which lets me drop digital camera files to it and it will rename them based on the internal EXIF datestamp (using whatever format I have). I'd like to find a similar way to do that with .DV files, using the datestamp of the first frame.

If I import using iMovie, splitting files at scene changes, I get Clip 1.DV through Clip XXX.DV, and for archiving purposes, it would be useful to have a similar utility.

Anyone have suggestions?

The new iMovie '08 imports and names videos like I want! Now I'm tempted to go back and re-import my hundreds of tapes 😉 I also much prefer how it puts all the videos in Event directories, so you can easily pull anything in to any project -- a bit Final Cut-ish. Some very nice features. I may end up using iMovie '08 strictly for small jobs, and managing my video library.

When you import an iMovie HD project in to iMovie '08, you get the old Clip 1.dv type names, alas.

If I could get an AppleScript actions that pulled the embedded DV datecode from a .dv file, I could write my own renamer, or an Automator action for DV files. So far, no luck finding them. The one utility I found for PCs, dvdate, works on AVI files only, so no go there.

If there was a command line that dumped out this info, I could do it from a Unix shell script 🙂
