Hello kvance,

Welcome to discussions: )

You don't say what you have tried to troubleshoot, if anything, have you tried, removing the cookies.plist & Safari cache folder to the trash?
If not, do so,(do not empty the trash unless you know i this works for you.

Quit Safari, first
Click on the Finder's Icon in the Dock.
In The Finder window, in the sidebar, click on the Home icon, (if the finders window is not already set to open your home folder) go to.......

Home~/Library/Cookies folder/ cookies.plist
Home~/Library/Cache folder/ Safari cache

Launch Safari, try yahoo & itunes.

It would be a good idea would be to try accessing both itunes & yahoo, via a newly created test account, this would help show if the issue is isolated to your username account, or if it is system wide, here is 's document on adding a new user account to your computer

Check your routers settings, make sure any built in firewall is not blocking
both itunes & yahoo.

Hi,

As you may gather, same results in the test account shows you have a system wide issue,
Maybe your connection/router, these are the things I would try to troubleshoot this issue.

• Are you running any third party firewall, such as Net Barrier or Peer Guardian?

• At times reapplying Mac 0s x 10.4.9 Combined Update helps esp. if you did the stand alone delta update.

First try flushing your router, dns numbers & or create a new location.
Then the combo 10.4.9 update, if all else fails.

• To flush the routers cache, using the Terminal application (Utilities folder)
Close all apps, cope & paste the following command below into the terminal window,
Click enter, you will be asked for an admin password, enter that (it'll not be echoed),
Click return.
When it's done, quit the Terminal application.

lookupd -flushcache

Restart your mac, any better?
-------------------------------------
If not....

• Do you use Dns numbers in the Dns Servers field,?
System preferences->Network,Show: Airport or ethernet [which ever is the case] in the TCP/IP tab, in Dns Servers
Oddly, In some cases most site will connect but some won't with out Dns numbers.
Look for your ISP's dns number here at the DNS Servers page, or call your ISP.

Some folks have a lot of luck with these, Verizon #'s (Level3) - these are not restricted to Verizon customers
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2

Are you using Earthlink? If you are these are the Opt out DNS #s.....

207.69.188.171 (west coast)
207.69.188.172 (east coast)
If you're west of the Mississippi, use the west coast DNS server as your primary and the east coast as secondary, vice-versa in the eastern U.S.

• Try creating a new location in Network calling it something else, but with all the same settings, take screenshots or write down the particular settings.
-------------------------------
If none of the above help, I suggest you reapply the 10.4.9 update following these steps if you already don't from this thread on the 10.4.6 update,: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2061638

"1. Backup your data. If unsure what is the best method of backing up your data to keep it safe, be sure to start your own topic here and many posters will be glad to find the best method for your needs.

2. Turn off Energy Saver and any automatic software updating mechanism from Quicktime, to Software Update, to third party updates.
3. Dismount (if a data storage peripheral) and disconnect third party peripherals.
4. Verify all your software including drivers for third party devices are known to work with the update in question, or needs the update.
If it does not need the update to run stop right here, and keep on using the version of the operating system you are running.

5. Do not update if your system is slow or unhealthy. Troubleshoot any system issues you may have with fonts, cache, or preferences before updating.

6. Make sure all Apple Applications are stored in the Applications folder (except Applications Mac OS 9 for Classic applications).

7. Repair permissions with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.

8. Apply the right update for your machine. Use Apple menu -> About This Mac to determine if you have a G3, G4, G5 (PowerPC, also known as PPC), or Intel. Here are the updates by platform:"

* Do not use you mac when it is updating, esp. when optimizing.

Good luck, lets us know if you have any questions, & how you fare.
