Can software UPDATE use a proxy server?

On the highly filtered Internet access that I use, I am unable to run Apple Software UPDATE and I was told by IT today to use their proxy server.

Can I setup Software Update to use this server?

Perhaops this is a Mac OSX Tiger question, or perhaps this is a networking question. If I posted this in the wrong foprum can someone tell me? Thanks....

I found an easier way. I'll just go off campus to the library whenever I want to run Software Update or connect to my Quicken Credit Card directly, or next year file taxes with the turbo tax software (not the web).

I tried getting Quicken to work with the proxy server but was unsuccessful. I did not call my bank and ask for aid, but only used the proxy addresses that IT told me to use. Another student was able to get his direct connect working, but he is using Windows and I am using the Mac.

I cant update my website with my web builder software or with Fetch here. However I can update my website via the yahoo web based file manager. Not as fast as native FTP, but it works.
