Netscape gone whacky on 9.2.2... HELP....

Hi,

I recently did some mods to my system and now Netscape 7.02 don't render correctly and causes a crash... hard crash, anyone had this experience? If so, how to resolve, I've tried changing the skin and it still plays up, even went to deleting application plus preferences and re-installing it plus plugins, still no luck.

Hi,

I've tried what you suggested and it still ends up rendering whaky.

I deleted the preference files
System Folder:Preferences:Mozilla Registry
System Folder:Preferences:Mozilla Versions

then deleted the Application
Applications (Mac OS 9):Netscape Folder

Rebooted with no Extensions
Reinstalled the program
Rebooted again
Loaded Netscape 7.1 PPC version

When it ended up rendering it just goes funny, its unusable
Any ideas?

If you've undone the "mods" you applied two months ago, and followed that with all the other steps you've listed above, and Netscape still isn't rendering some web pages correctly for you, it's time to try a different browser. It may be that the sites in question have themselves undergone changes recently that Netscape is unable to cope with. Other OS 9-based browsers that you might try include iCab and WAMCom Mozilla 1.3.1 (in addition, of course, to the long-abandoned Internet Explorer 5.1.7, which I can't recommend).

The modes were the installing of system extensions... Like I said, and I know it has been some time, I turned off extensions and reinstalled the Netscape 7.1 application, I then set System defaults (ALL) extensions to on. This excluded the extensions I installed or any other third party extensions which weren't apart of the original 9.2.2 installation that came with 10.2.6 CD. Rebooted and restarted Netscape.

The Netscape goes wacky part is that the browser itself doesn't render its buttons/scroll bars etc correctly. It has nothing to do with the sites that it loads... thats if I could see the location bar, which I can't! It defaults to Netscape.com.

Maybe if your version has not gone whacky, could you provide your extesnion setup so I can cross reference my 9.2.2 to yours. I'm thinking that it may have to do with the Java runtime (MRJ) which causes the Netscape application to so not look pleasant, a bit under the weather... just like it is here in Oz.

cheers

Hi, TM. I haven't used Netscape since version 4.8 (and that was in Mac OS 8.6), so the contents of my normal OS 9.2.2 extension set would be of very little use to you. And because you've already tried the "OS 9.2.2 All" extension set with the same unsatisfactory results your modified set produced, I rather doubt that extensions are at the root of your problem. I don't know what else might be. In your place, and absent any more promising suggestions from Don A. or others, I think I would next try a Clean Install of OS 9.2.2 followed by reinstalling Netscape again.

You should be able to re-install OS 9 from your original OS 10.2.x (Jaguar) Install CDs. These Apple articles may help:

Prolem solved,

it seems that the My Mozilla Profile got corrupt, one was due to that fact that I installed the NS 8 skin, so what I did was:

Again removed the Preferences:Mozilla Files, deleted NS 7.02 (I know Istated 7.1, my mistake, removed Mozilla 1.3.1, and removed the crucial Folder Documents:Mozilla -> which is where I found the profiles). I then reinstalled the applications one by one without any extensions on and rebooted...

Whala. Now NS 7.02 and Mozilla both work, NS 7.01 being the better renderer but slightly slower than Mozilla 1.3.1

Problem solved

cheers
