'Please Wait. Very Low Battery.'

I keep getting this with my ipod AND it won't charge. I've tried a different usb cable thinking it might be a faulty cable, but that didn't work. I got a replacement battery and everything worked fine until it ran out of charge and now I'm back to 'Please Wait. Very Low Battery.'

What is the **** problem with this? Aaaargh, it's so frustrating. I've had my ipod video since November 05, so it's out of warranty.

REEEAAAD MEEEE!!!
Alright so this just happened to my iPod and I spent like two hours trying to figure it out and I finally did. It's totally simple, by the way.

It won't charge because it doesn't have enough juice to start charging [crazy as that sounds] so it just continually resets it's self. You need to have it hooked up to your computer in 'disk mode'.

1. Take your iPod and plug it in to your USB port.
2. Hold down the select [center button] and the play button.

That's it, It might have to update your library but you shouldn't lose all your music. It worked for me so I'm hoping it can solve all of your guys' problems too. Good luck!

BTW I once got it working and iTunes recognized it and their was a new software update which I updated but it went back to normal "Battery low...", it would be helpful if someone showed a video of them doing it. I think I hooked it up then held menu and it went to the menu with low battery said it was charging but didn't charge long enough therefore making me stuck. So you plug it in for like a couple of hours while it says battery low. Then you turn it on hold menu back screen lights up and then you charge the rest of the battery (when you leave on charge during the battery low thing it enters the red bar phase and from there starts ACTUALLY charging. Gonna do a couple test runs and get back to you guys.

This exact problem (Low battery, please wait forever) happened to me. I bucked up the 70 bucks for applecare (my warranty was expiring in a few days) and sent it in. they sent me a brand new ipod, 5th Gen, and i used it for one day, my girlfriend tossed it in her purse, two days later, same problem. Brand New Ipod.
Obviously these 5th gen ipods are faulty. I'm trying the reset technique and also the car charger technique. we'll see what happens.
pieces of **** is what they are. My nano never has this problem

Thank you SO MUCH for that suggestion -- you fixed my problem. I had all of the same symptoms as the other posters here... I kept on doing the reset (select + Menu) and also trying to go into disk mode (select + Play) -- while my iPod was CONNECTED to my computer with the USB cable. Nothing worked. It just kept going back to "Please Wait" or the Apple.

I tried disconnecting the cable and going into disk mode (select + Play) and it worked immediately. Then plugged it into my computer -- now it's charging.

(Another poster suggested that doing all of those resets while the iPod is connected to a USB power source helps it build up a BIT of charge. Based on my experience, I think that might be accurate. I had tried going into disk mode earlier (with the iPod disconnected) and it wouldn't boot...so it must have magically gotten a little bit more charge by being plugged in and getting rebooted.)

30Gb 5th gen ipod. worked fine literally 2 hours ago. was restoring after library got out of hand, restore worked fine, after that i got the "please wait. very low battery." nothing changes it, i've used 3 different power cords witch i know should all work fine, used 4 different usb ports on my laptop and 2 on my desktop. restarted ipod about 30 times, nothing changes at all. when i hold buttons to reboot ipod the screen will fade out to a blank screen for about 2 seconds then the battery warning will come back. tried all the quick fixed listed in this forum and nothing. warranty is very expired so i opened case and disconnected battery, when plugged back in it instantly goes to low battery screen again. now its just been sitting next to me for a few hours unplugged with the low battery screen still showing.

I have a 60 gig i bought in 06.
I'm stuck at the "very low battery" "please wait" i've done the menu + select button thing probably 149 times. and i got nothing. the play + select thing does not work.

Does anybody have any idea that is specific to this model maybe? or a wonder solution that costs me no money and no loss of data? will removing the back plate and resetting cables erase my data?

Right now im thinking that i'll just leave it plugged in for like 3 days and see what happens.

REAADDDDD MEEEEEEE!!!!

Ok so i had this exact same problem ( warning very low battery, sad ipod face and it was saying go to apple.com/support)

anyways i gathered everyones info up and used it all and it helped me.

i plugged my ipod into the computer and reset it a few times using Menu and middle button.

IMPORTANT!!
make sure you disconect your ipod from a charger then reset it once more so it goes to he black apple then quickly press the middle button and play button together, with any luck it should go into disk mode! i tried doing it when it was charging but it didnt work, took it off charge and wolla 🙂....you mite need to repeat the process a few times!

anyways its on disk mode now 😀 and i put it back charging in my computer and when i wake up tomorro hopefully its working!

Can anyone shed any light on this?#

Tried all of the above methods (I've restarted the ipod about 80 times now :S) still no luck.

I just CANT get it into disk mode.. If i leave it plugged in and use Play+Select it goes into disk mode, but then STRAIGHT back to "Please Wait. Very Low Battery."

My Verdict is that it WONT hold any sort of charge, any help appriciated. 🙂

Hi Everybody, having the same problem with the sad icon and 'very low battery' tried everything also but give up ad the end. Here in the Netherlands we have some smart guys from 'repod' repairservice and through our Apple user club they repair and give good advice.
They told me it's a wellknown problem with the 5th generation iPods and it's caused by the motherboard. They replace it for me and it will cost me 82,50 Euro's including sending, parts and repair. My iPod is nearly 15 months old, and Apple should be shamed that they don't have an extended warranty for this wellknown problem. We payed a lot of money for those iPods.

I'm having a similar problem.. I believe I ran the battrie dead on accident, Plugged it into my computer and nothing happen, finally about three hours later it sad "Please Wait. Very Low Battery." left it charging for a long time and nothing happen, finally unplugged it from the computer and put it into a wall socket, it loaded right up, and worked fine, so I left it on the wall charger FOR *_2 DAYS_* and when I unplugged it, it shut right off..

*SOLUTION IF WARRANTY EXPIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

I tried all of the button combinations listed on this thread, (menu+center, play+center) in numerous different ways, but whenever i unplugged the ipod from the wall, it immediately died again, even tough it said it was charged when it was on the wall. So i called the customer support service for ipods, and since my warranty ran out, they refused to talk to me. They were going to make me pay $30 just to troubleshoot... yeah. pretty helpful service, right? Anyways, since my warranty ran out and my only other option was to buy another ipod for $250, i took LanceYBoY's advice, and it worked! All you have to do is to separate the front of the ipod from the back casing, but be careful because there are ribbons that connect the front to the back. Once you get the ipod opened, look in the back casing, there should be the battery. There are two ribbons, once going from the battery to under the HD, and the other going from the battery to the lower right hand side of the front. All you have to do is unplug the cord that leads to the bottom right and let the ipod sit for 5 or 10 minutes. After that, plug it back up, be careful, because if it breaks, bye bye ipod. after you plug it up, put the ipod back together, which is really easy, just push the two halves together. and plug it up. I plugged mine into my computer, and it was synced it with my music. Once your music has synced, your ipod should be charged, and it should hold the charge! Good luck. Oh, and I am not responsible if your ipod breaks. This method should only be used if your warranty is expired. But don't let it intimidate you, i thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was. It's very simple once you get the ipod opened.

I'm having a similar problem, but it's not exact. I'm trying to restore a friend's 5th gen iPod video after it was dropped. The iPod continually reboots, cycling from "Please wait, very low battery" to the Apple logo, and finally to the sad iPod icon. I can get it into disk mode, but it won't stay. After I plug it into the USB port, Windows recognizes it, but iTunes does not. The battery icon then indicates that it's charging. After perhaps a minute, the iPod reboots and resumes its cycle.

I've tried several of the methods listed above to no avail. I've opened it and left the battery unplugged for a few minutes, and that didn't work. Multiple restarts didn't work either. I pressed on the connection to the hard drive to make sure it wasn't knocked loose when it was dropped--no change. I really don't want this to be a dead iPod, but it's starting to look that way. Basically, I'm left with two questions after all of this:

Why won't it stay in disk mode, and why won't iTunes recognize it?

Any help anyone can provide would be very much appreciated.

I have the same issues as everyone else here and believe the 'griffin itrip' is to blame.
It has killed 2 ipods in the space of two minutes and caused all of the symptoms above.
I would concur with all the above advice as i've been able to boot the ipod's by timing it just right and resetting them via the menu and play buttons. However so far they continue to revert to their failed state after a while.
Just now i have opened one up and disconnected the battery for a good while, put it together and got it live long enough to hook it up to itunes. So we shall see.
The reason for this outrageous failure is something to do with the itrip sucking power and ******* up the ipods power meter. I know the battery's were both fine yesterday so it must be something akin to the opposite of a surge. Fluctuation.
I'm just a carpenter so what would i know.
