G5 coolant leak repair results?

I've seen posts about this but none have stated the results to the repair. I just had a coolant leak in my Dual 2.7 G5, which shut the computer down and wouldn't let it start back up. I took it in to the Apple store today. Anyway, I know others have had this problem. My question is, after being repaired, was the hard drive intact. I've got some things backed up but some recent projects are not yet backed up so it would really hurt my business if the hardrive were wiped. So if anyone has had this problem fixed please let me know if the hard drive was touched or just the processors etc. Thanks.

I live in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and I own a PowerMac G5 2.5 dual (bought in 2004). Two days a go, the computer didn't turn on and I found a green liquid leaking under the CPU. As I see by the posts here, this is not an isolated rare case as the apple authorized assistant told me here in my town. Problably I'll have to replace both processors plus the motherboard. Is there a way I could replace the processors for ones that doesn't have this leaking problem? I don't want to have another leak in one or two years, or it would be worth it to buy a new one today!

i dont think its that rare,

my dual 2.7 g5 has just sprung a leak too, luckily i have retired it before it go's bang but its out of warranty and it cost £2400 when i bought it 24 months ago and now its sitting doing nothing.

i imagine these systems with the delphi pumps will pretty much all fail eventually, as it appears to be a design flaw in the pump, just run it for enough hours in a warm enough environment. sadly the power supply is directly below these leaks with little to protect it from the fluid

there are o rings (in the pump) that appear not to be able to withstand the pressure build up when the pump is running fast and hot, there appears to a small expansion reservoir in the pump to accommodate this expansion (remember its a sealed system) but it appears not to be enough

lets hope there is eventually an extended repair scheme for these liquid cooled G5s with delphi pumps in them as i am certainly not the only customer that can hardly afford to spend another £2400 so soon after buying this. all my previous macs have been very reliable, and its heartening to see apple have repair schemes for other manufacturing defects (delphi's defect in this case i'd like to add)

so add me to the rapidly extending list of g5 cooling failures

i also have of a friend in my town who has also had a coolant failure in his dual 2.5 G5

so thats two from me !

I also now have a dead Dual 2.7 thanks to cooling leaks, the power supply, logic board and processors have to be replaced at a cost of R18,000 ($2522). What is worse is that the Apple Repair centre when they received the system first told me that the power supply was kaput and the repair woul cost R2420, ($339), so I authorised the repair, when they installed the power supply they then told me that the logic board was also kaput and this would cost an additional R7,890 ($1105) so I also authorised this repair and when they install that, they then tell me that the processors are damaged giving me a totally unacceptable total repair cost in excess of R18,000. Had I been given this information at the outset I would have just thrown the bloody thing away. My drives were OK by the way. That may well be my last Mac

update on my leaky dual 2.7 G5

i spoke to applecare UK today who passed me onto an engineer, who agreed to sort it out for me giving me an exception code (as the machine is out of warranty)

so i took it to our local apple repair centre and they said it would be fixed free of charge !

i'll keep you all posted as to the progress but so far so good
