Does anyone use VXA tapes?

I need to design a backup plan for my Mac Pro and two other macs and I'm looking for suggestions for what hardware and software to buy. I was wondering if anyone uses tapes these days for the backup media? I was looking at the VXA-320 firewire drive from Exabyte. On the other hand, external USB or firewire hard disks seem to be almost as cheap as tape media these days so perhaps I'd do better by ordering a few external drives? Suggestions anyone?
