Image capture scan button greyed out

I'm switching from PC to Mac. I connected my Epson scanner. When I push the scan button, ImageCapture opens up, but the scan button is greyed out, and I can neither scan nor save the image. I visited the Epson website and downloaded the Twain driver recommended for Mac. But my machine won't extract or install the driver. So I'm stuck. I'd greatly appreciate any help with making my scanner work with Macbook.

Thanks,
I have Tiger. I did check Image Capture > Preferences and tabbed to Scanner. I am unable to select the Use Twain Software. I did download the Mac Twain drivers from Epson (Twain v 5.75A for Mac), but I could not extract or install the files. The Epson file had a *.sea extension, and my Macbook didn't automatically select a program with which to open it. So I don't think I can select Twain Software, unless I am missing something. I think you have me on the right track...

Thanks,
I understand that Stuffit is a Mac version of WinZip. I somehow had trouble downloading and installing Stuffit. I will try it again. thanks for the info regarding the sea extension. I bought the full version of WinZip. Would you happen to know if there is a WinZip version for Mac. When I changed from PC to Mac, I didn't really understand how many software conversions I would need to make. [That's another discussion--Is there a discussion board for PC to Mac changers?.]

So, you'd recommend downloading stuffit, extracting the Epson files, installing them, and seeing what happens? Makes sense. I assume also that Macs do not have Twain drivers pre-installed?

In the meantime you could do this:

Highlight the .sea file and press Command + i to open the info box for the file. Where it says Open with select Stuffit if indeed it is on your hard drive.
Close the info box and then try and double click on the driver.sea file.

Update, just make sure you have downloaded the correct driver for OS X 10.4 Tiger and not a windows driver.

Wow,
So a google search does indeed show the *.sea file to be a compressed Stuffit file. But when I try to expand it with Stuffit, I get the above mentioned error message. I'm making progress, but I'm still not much closer to making my scanner work with the Macbook, and getting a twain driver installed on this machine. I did buy the extended warranty. Can I get Apple to walk me through this?

It is an epson cx3200 multifunction machine. i don't use the printer, just the scanner occasionally--I have a high speed, high cost scanner at work, but with my experiences with Apple stuff at home so far, I'm not ready to switch my work computers to Apple. It worked well with my Dell PC, and I was hoping that a machine from a major manufacturer would work with my Mac. Anyway, it is an old Epson cx3200 multifunction machine.

Thanks, but I already did that. In fact, I have the Epson site for which you very nicely provide the link already open. The problem is that I cannot do anything with the *.sea files that are downloaded to my computer. I have sent a technical request to Epson--but I suspect that installing a common device like this should not be so much trouble and I am missing something obvious.

I thought it would be diskimage file as in .dmg that contained the driver.
Can you see anything inside that .sea file if you Control + click it. Is there an Open package contents ? If so what it inside it?

Update: If there is a problem with Stuffit, you could try this app'
the-unarchiver
and see if that performs the job on that file correctly.

I use an Epson Perfection 2580 scanner, but yours should work, it is just something weird going on with this installation thing.

Disconnect your printer/scanner.
Reconnect it.
Open printer Setup utility and select Add printer
select the Epson CX 3200
Close printer setup utility

Run Repair Permissions using Disk Utility, found in Application Utilities.

Now see if she works- both the printer and the scanner
