Cleaning Smudges & Stains on Black MacBook Keyboard and Case: SOLVED
IT WORKS! It did not damage my exterior case or the palm rests and removed all the stains and smudges that had accumulated over a year on the case. Although I had been using iKlear polish for the screen, it did little if anything to clean the fingerprints and smudges that were on the black polycarbonate case. Our BMB now looks as good as the day we bought it!
I know many out there will frown on this and say you should only use a microfiber cloth and water and believe me I did, but they did not work!
The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is a very soft white sponge. You just wet it, squeeze it out and run it back and forth on the surface with light pressure. Then you blot it dry with a soft cloth and finish up using a microfiber polishing cloth. Just to be cautious, I started the battery. I figured that if it ruined the finish on the battery I could just buy a new battery, no huge loss. Within a minute the entire back of the MacBook was in virtually pristine out of box condition! It also cleaned off all of the shiny oily residue on the spacebar and the keyboard.
I heartily endorse this product if your BMB is smudged & stained in this manner. In my case, the unit is used by my daughter (a 9th grader) who, like many kids that age, likes to use AIM and iChat and eat snacks at the same time. You can just imagine what the case looked like after a year.
Anyway, my 2 cents.
