Sharing Itunes library with Playstation 3

The latest update to the PS3 (1.80) provides a capability to connect wirelessly to a media PC. I was wondering if it is possible to share (stream) my itunes library on my Mac using this facility.

I've enabled sharing in itunes but i suspect I'll need to use AppleTalk to enable file sharing.... do I need to add the PS3 Mac address / IP no somewhere in my mac settings? Has anyone got any pointers on how I can make this work?

Notes:
- iTunes library contains only ripped MP3s (no purchases from ITunes store)
- I'm using a Netgear wireless router DG834G which provides internet access for both PS3 and Mac

I'm pretty sure I heard someone say sharing works with WMP. Actually, yeah, it was in this thread:

Meanwhile, you might want to take a look at Allegro Media Server, which according to the developer provides access to media files and iTunes library contents to UPnP Media Players or UPnP Media Control Points.

Man, that is some neat software. It's worked first time, and I'm now streaming MP3's from iTunes to my PS3. How cool is that?

I can't be of help except in the negative sense: a PS3 cannot use iTunes Sharing (at least to the best of my knowledge) nor can a PS3 speak AppleTalk. I think you'll have to copy the tracks to the PS3 manually via CD, but perhaps someone else knows a way to do it across a network.

The PS3 update is great.. haven't tried any DVDs yet but the remote play with a PSP is pretty cool too.

The option to connect to a media server is interesting but alas I feel you may be right about iTunes not working.... maybe WMP will... argh!

I'm an Apple fan, but they are so late concerning media sharing technology that's I'm beginning to think about Vista.

No way what Apple is doing, they ALWAYS stop half-way.

iTunes ? Great ! But why no uPNP sharing ?
iPhoto ? Fantastic ! But why no uPNP sharing ?

That's nonsense to me.

Don't think so. Not unless the ps3 can somehow run iTunes.

Off-topic: The 1.80 firmware update for ps3 is really amazing. The upscaling for ps1, ps2, and dvds is wondrous.

Use this software to share the music files. It worked for me.

After installing restart Mac and then your PS3 on.
And your computer should be listed there.
