Transferring AOL Saved Mail from PC to Mac

Hi,

I would like to transfer a client of mine's AOL emails saved on her PC (going back 3-4 years) and put them onto her new MacBook for use in AOL there. I'm having difficulty doing this and am wondering if it's even possible. Could someone tell me how to do it?

She still wants to use AOL and not Mail.app, but that'll come with time, I hope (along with getting rid of AOL altogther!)

People at AOL might know, but their tech support is for paying customers, which my client is not.

Any takers?! Thanks, Dave

Newer free AOL/AIM accounts are imap (or at least able to be configured as imap). Is her old AOL mail pop or imap or web? If the latter two, it is still stored on AOL's servers.

If the mail is still stored on AOL's servers, all that needs to be done is create a "new" account in Mail for the existing AOL account and it will all just be there. See this link for the "how to"

Note: any auxiliary folders (i.e., not "Inbox") created/existing on AOL will be accessible by clicking on the triangle that is next to the globe icon for the aol.com mail account that will appear on the left-hand side of the Mail viewer window.

Thanks, both of you, but the problem is more the mail that is saved on her PC. In AOL on PCs you can save to your computer and that is what my client has being doing, so it's not on AOL's servers.

Now she would like all of these emails on her new Mac and I'm not sure how to transfer the file where all of her mail is stored on the Mac and get it to acknowledge. Moreover, I'm not even sure if I'm moving the right file.

Hope someone can help...

I have a related question. I'm having trouble finding the specific file my AOL incoming/saved mail is stored on my Macbook. Specifically, when I use Spotlight to search for terms I know are included in some saved emails there are no hits, but I can open up the Filing Cabinet and access these emails directly. It has become critical because I need to load old emails from a back-up drive because my hard drive failed, and so far they are not showing up after loading the AOL program and all backed up AOL support files that I could find onto my new drive from the external back-up drive. I haven't read this thread thru, so if this is addressed elsewhere, I apologize.

another maybe more simpler solution may be to use the AOL Service Assistant....this imports everything associated with an AOL account right into Mail.app....this could also be how you get her to convert!! hehe

here's the link

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/aolserviceassistant.htm l

it also imports all of her bookmarks into Safari and contacts into Address Book from her AOL account...i used this mainly for all the old bookmarks that i had...and the few friends and newsletters that i still get on my very old AOL account...

it's completely automated and really easy to use, just a quick download

hope this helps!! 🙂
