does anyone out there have my specs; Sonnettech MDX Dual 1.6gh processor with ATI Radeon 9800 Pro VGA card? After installing the processor, i now get weird lines all over the screen at bootup and then i get a bunch of green speckles all over my desktop after the computer boots. i can work on my computer, but the screen images, speckles and other artifacts are annoying. i have dropped the hz to 66 and the screen resolution to 800x600 because higher resolutions would cause the computer to freeze. does anyone have any catalyst settings or ATI display panel suggestions ? i wish i could attach the pictures i took of the display.

The G5 has a lot better airflow than the Quicksilver, so I wouldn't replace the fan as long as it's still working, but look around the local computer stores to see which have VGA coolers, so you will be ready when it fails. Before you buy a cooler, take a close look around the card in the G5. The mounting hardware for coolers pokes out from the back of the card. There is room in the Quicksilver, but I have heard that some computers have a memory card close to the graphics card, so some coolers won't work
Hey there. I've been looking for this card on eBay etc for my QuickSilver. I also have an OWC Mercury upgrade to Dual 1.6GHz G4. I have the GeForce 4Ti and want to run Motion 2 on my Mac (and have Quartz Extreme support etc).
Would you recommend that I get some cooling thing from the outset, rather than AFTER installing the 9800. Has anyone here heard of this Graphics Card NOT working with a Upgraded CPU?
Buying the cooling kit now is a good idea; it makes the whole computer cooler, which will help with the CPU upgrade. Try the card before you change the fan, though, so you can return it if it doesn't work. I was not able to fine a way of removing the original heat-sink without breaking its mounting hardware, which would void the the warrantee.
I recently installed my 128mb 9800 (AGP $89 version from Ebay) in a DA (533) with the discontinued Sonnet single G4 1.4 ghz upgrade (with 2mb L3). The card was much harder to snap into since it has a hook on the back end of the card. Everything seems to run smooth.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is core image? Why is it important? Why do I need it? What am I really missing without core image? Please provide an answer to this, as it seems that core image to me is a wasteless technology that virtually I see no reason at all to have. Maybe I am wrong.
Core Image support means the graphics card can do more image processing. For example, QuickTime Player uses it for doing video adjustments (contrast, color, etc.). DVD Player uses it for zoom. Some application will do the same function (but slower) using the main CPU, if you don't have core image, but if that method can't keep up with the video, you don't get the function without core image. Future applications will make more use of core image.
