Where does iCal keep the calendar files? Version 1.5.x? Version 2.0.x?

iBook G4 & MacBook, iBooks on 10.3.9 -- MacBook on 10.4.x

I'm also looking to back up my iCal file since my drive needs to be wiped.
In my user/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources
I see four folders with the same date and time.
29BF7C47-AE53-4DBC-8B6E-8A63A9ADF3C8.calendar
92F60CFD-369E-4334-94F6-CF9CFEA40E23.calendar
A4D59371-1D62-4FFF-8877-08D65A8B64AB.calendar
EC70CC47-61FA-41E9-B95F-02DFB5651BAC.calendar

I think I have only one calendar, so I am confused about these files. Any explanation would help.

If you have four folders it would suggest that iCal thinks you have four calendars. You could check. In the iCal folder there is a file nodes.plist. If you double-click it it will open in the Property List Editor. You should see the word Root with a black triangle beside it. Click the triangle and below Root you will see Current, List, and Version. The value to the right of List should be "1 ordered object" or "4 ordered objects" with the number corresponding to the number of calendar files that iCal is using.

Oh Boy. I am now pretty confused on what to do. I had a problem with the screen on my MacBook and before I took it in for repairs I used carboncopycloner to save all my data on my external hard drive. I went in the closet and dug out my iBook with 10.3.9. I was able to retrive my addressbook and some other files (music, safari bookmarks, etc). Is there a way to get the iCal version 2.x calendars into iCal 1.x.?

To the person who asked why I don't use the built-in Backup command: 1) I didn't/don't know about it, and 2) My HD was removed from my G4 tower. I am trying to recover data from it via my PowerBook before it gets reinitialized, so I guess I can't access iCal the regular way.

AK, I found the nodes.plist. I opened it. In addition to Current and Version I see the word List (not Root) with a black triangle beside it. When I open the triangle, I see values 0, 1, 2, and 3. When these are opened, I see Key, SourceKey, Publishers, Selection, Type, and ThemeColor. Publishers is empty. Selection is the same: 1. Type is the same: CALSourceNode. Everything else has different values.

My HD will be wiped on Tues, so I'm hoping to recover the file Sun or Mon. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Marsha, according to iCal you have four calendars, not one. I would make a copy of the complete iCal folder.

As for backup, you should also be aware that your Address Book has a built in backup facility, and as currently people are reporting more problems with lost AB than iCal data, it is one you should be using regularly.

If you are hoping to recover your G4 disk I suggest you copy the complete home folder and put it back on the reinitialised disk - that way you have all your settings restored too.
