thin vertical lines are appearing on the screen on my imac G5 (isight)

A short while ago a very thin blue line appeared running vertically down the the screen, i cant undertsand why the screen is beginning to do this as the computer is not that old.

A second line has just appeared. I hope the screen doesn't decide to die!

Can such a thing be fixed?

James

My iMac G5, purchased in Feb of 2006 also has the vertical lines. Started with a single magenta/pinkish line, now also have a green one. Hopefully, Apple will do the right thing here and own up to the manufacturing defect and get these repaired. From the threads I've read it sounds like the problem starts to surface within a few months after the 1 year warranty expires. Just because it is no longer under warranty doesn't mean that Apple should ignore the issue.

You should keep in mind that these are user to user technical support forums. Generally, the only people posting here are those with problems. The thousands/millions without problems don't ever come here.

If you want Apple to be aware of an issue, then you need to post your concerns over on the Product Feedback website.

hi all.. me too, same problem. bought mine here in manila, philippines Jan 2006. serial no W85504XXXXXX so not part of recall. blue vertical lines on the right side (about 2 inches wide already) started appearing just last week so had to move all my icons to the right, and had to resize my windows just to use this thing.

as a temporary solution, is there any way to re-size the monitor display, as one would using a PC + CRT monitor setup, or "shrink the desktop" so the dead portion of the LCD display is not used?

I've had this problem too (among other things... HD, Optical Drive, Processor).

Took my iMac to an Authorised Apple Repair shop three weeks ago, and they told me I needed a new Display. Optical Drive and a new HD (thankfully, I got applecare).

The company still have my computer, despite them saying it would take Five working days. They've got a replacement display on order from Apple, who keep saying they're simply out of stock.

I'm not annoyed at the company fixing my Mac. I'm annoyed at Apple, as it'll end up them taking four or more weeks to get a replacement part to the repair shop. I've got video/audio work to do, and haven't been able to do it for three weeks.

Apple have told me directly they won't give me a replacement computer, even though they admitted that the fixing cost is greater than the replacement cost. But if the display takes any longer to come, does anyone reckon I'll be able to demand a replacement computer? I simply need my Mac back so I can carry on with my work.

I'm in the UK, by the way.

Since you use your computer for work, I would contact Customer Relations.
Ask *politely & firmly* that you need a replacement computer until +the repairs on your current computer is done.+
Sorry, I do not know the UK phone number for Customer Relations.

As a form of good will, Apple will give you a new computer after you have had *3 repair jobs (under any of their warranty programs)*. It really depends on the situation.

WOW! just got off the phone with apple. My iMac G5 just 18 months young started with one vertical line and now has many more. They can only offer phone support for it for a $50 fee. Otherwise I need to take it into a service provider to look at. After reading this board I get the idea, Deal with lines or fork over more money to replace a faulty and expensive part and service job. very disappointing. I will make a formal complaint because I don't feel this is an isolated case. I have been a loyal Mac user but now hesitate to purchase any new Apple products for fear of this type of issue becoming routine.

They used to just work, Maybe growth isn't a good thing if you can't manage it.
