I have five 1 pixel lines on my display for a about two weeks. It started as 1 blue line now its 5 lines, 3 blue, yellow and pink.

Tried switching off, changing resolutions and colours, nothing worked.

Warranty ran out the week before this happened. Is there any way that I can fix this without sending the imac in to a dealer/shop? I am kind of far away from any authorised dealers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Intel Core Duo iMac (17" - 1.83GHz) just started doing the same thing. A pretty blue line one pixel wide marks off approximately one-third of the right side of the screen.

It doesn't matter whether I boot up in OS X (10.5.1), Windows XP, or if I'm simply looking at the gray Apple boot screen. So, this is a hardware defect, whether in the LCD panel circuitry or in the graphics chip.

At first, the line would appear and disappear, even pulsating down the screen. Leaving the computer running for a few minutes would cause the line to stay put. Now the blue line is there from start up to shut down.

I love Apple's design, software, and the fact that they are doing so well with their profit margins. If profits come at the expense of hardware quality, however, Apple should make the appropriate changes in design or suppliers.

After an iMac G5 that suffered a dead logic board and the screen problem on this iMac, I've lost faith in Apple's all-in-one desktop. Until this week, this iMac (Intel) was the best computer I had ever owned. I need the missing Mac desktop (with no screen) that falls between a Mac mini and Mac Pro. If I have to just save up for a Mac Pro, then I plan to plug an external screen into the iMac in the meantime.

This may sound stupid, but even though they give you a one year warranty, you can expect a computer to work a little longer than just 1,5 years. They're supposed to sell you a product that will work just fine for at least 3-4 years (have forgotten what you're supposed to expect from a computer). 1,5 years for a computer is just nothing and either the store you bought it from or Apple should help you out. Cause obviously they didn't sell you a decent computer.

You should just stand up for your legal rights, cause you still have them. Not sure what the situation is like in France, but here in The Netherlands you, as a consumer, actually have a lot more legal rights than they tend to tell you.

I could have sworn there were a lot more posts on this issue. A lot of mine regarding consumer law seem to have disappeared. Surely Apple have not removed them. Just in case you missed them...If you live in Europe you should be covered by consumer law for at least 2 years. In the UK the law is even stronger and can cover you for up to 6 years. Your claim is not against the manufacturer bit against the people who sold the goods.

Hi, All!

Just to share the pain, I had the same problem (a single vertical line, right in the middle of the display, appearing about 3 months after the end of the 1 year warranty).

I have AppleCare, so replacing the display was really smooth. Took the iMac to an Apple representative (I'm in Brazil, so no Apple Store here) and they took 2 days to confirm that the problem was in the monitor, 10 days to receive a new monitor and then 2 days to replace the monitor.

2 weeks after I received the iMac back, working, I have a new line. This time it's a couple of inches to the right from the center.

Before this line appeared, I realized there was a single stuck pixel on the left of the monitor. That by itself had let me down, since the previous display was perfect, but now I see that wasn't so bad.

I'll take the iMac back to the store and pray this isn't the start of a long cycle.

Best regards!
