importing cd without itunes separating artists

How do I import a full cd, keeping it in order & together as an "album" without itunes pulling out a song that has a compelation of artists, and putting it in the library so you cannot listen to the entire cd (the songs with mixed artists will be in the library as if they were a single)

Use the album artist field. This will file the whole album under that name if the artist field has two in it. I know bb king has many albums like that and now they are all under bb king without losing the artist he played with.

So "Get info" on the whole album.
Then fill in the artist album field, not the artist field

I have the music in my library sorted by albums, so music with the main artist and another artist don't get organized into another area, but it does not organize it in the same way on my ipod. My ipod lists the artist and the album, but then under that are the individual songs that are the "mixed" artists, though they are on the same album. How can I get the whole album together on the ipod as it is in my music library? I've repeatedly tried to sync, and there is no change. I don't want those few songs separated.

Two easy options.

Edit tags to remove extra artist. (When I do it this way the extra info is added to the comments section.)
Set album to be a compilation.
