Soundcard Problems (MOTU 896HD)

I'm having problems with my soundcard and I was wondering if any of you lovely people may be able to help!

My MOTU 896 basically plays back music played from iTunes but when it comes to my work in Logic Pro it makes a high pitched squeeling noise and does not play back any audio. I have tried everything under the sun to solve the problem including restarting my Macbook, switching off everything for a while and coming back again, changing Firewire cables, opening up a wide variety of sessions.....! etc etc. Nothing works.

It comes up with an error explaining that Logic had problems sychronising audio with MIDI but I was thinking what does this have to do with the problem!?! Surely if that was it I would hear SOME of the tracks.

I thought it was a sample rate issue but I've synched up the sample rates and it's not that. Any suggestions as to a solution? Is it Logic's problem or the soundcard's? Anything I can try out?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.6), 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 60GB, Logic Pro (primary usage), MOTU 828MKII
