How to Connect Palm Pilot to iBook G4?
I purchased the USB connection cable/kit for my Palm Pilot IIIc cradle, so I could program my Palm with this iBook G4, but after installing the new software and making the cable connections, I brought up the Palm Desktop software (which opens in Classic) and received a connection error message: "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established."
The very small amount of information in the Gettng Started guide that came with the USB cable/CD connection kit was not helpful. I connected as it instructed, and tried the troubleshooting advice about disabling/enabling Hotsync Manager, unplugging & replugging the USB adapter into the laptop's USB port. Was unable to follow the 3rd suggestion of temporarily changing the Serial Port Settings tab since "PalmConnect USB" was the only option available to me on the port list under Local Setup.
It worked perfectly well YEARS ago when I had a desktop G4 (before Mac OS X came out), and it worked fine during the 18 months of temporay insanity when I tried using a Dell laptop (upon first becoming restricted to wheelchair and unable to sit up at a desk anymore). I recently accidentally wiped out all my Palm files when charging it on the Cradle, or would never have known it didn't work with this "new" (2004) iBook G4.
Does anyone know how to connect the Palm Pilot IIIc to the iBook G4 using the Palm cradle and this USB serial port-to-usb port connection cable?
Thanks!
