Quark Express on Tiger

Hi again!

I have been running Quark 4.1 on my old G4 OS9.1 without any problems at all.

I now wish to run Quark on my new Mac mini with Tiger. Problem is, it won't recognise my installer. Can anyone advise on which version of QX I should invest in to ensure compatibility with OSX and be able to open old QX4 documents too please?

I've heard that QX 6 is a better option to the new QX7.

As anyone, I don't want to spend fortunes on programs, does anyone know a reasonable seller of QX please? I'm based in England, but often buy from the States.

Also applies to Adobe P-Shop. I have been using 4 and 5, but don't want to shell out £1000.00 for CS3.

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for the info. It's as I suspected; going to have to spend some cash unfortunately as Colin says!

One last Q... can QX7 open existing QX4 files? Or do you need to open in say 5 or 6 and resave again to then open in 7? A lot of my existing work is QX4.

Steve, Quark 4.1 is a "Classic" application - OS9.

On Intel based macs like the Mini - Classic apps do not run.

We're still using 6.5 but haven't tried it on an Intel Mac yet.

Quark 6.5 will run on an intel Mac, but Quark 7 has been made for it and runs much smoother. In answer to above, you will need to purchase Quark 6.5 or 7, in order to run it. Quark 7 will not run on anything previous to OS 10.4.x.

I'm not sure about earlier versions of Photoshop, but cs runs very well on 10.3.x and earlier as well as 10.4.x I haven't reied earlier versions on an intel Mac yet, nor do I plan to. Steve, time to spend some money on new software.

Steve,

Add to my previous post about Adobe.

Go straight to CS 3 it's native and from quick tests works much better than CS2 on the Intel as we expected.

Don't beleive people who say CS2 works fine on Intel, unless you have over 2GB of ram it crashes heaps.

Sorry I've never had the opportunity to go from a Quark 4 file to Quark 7 in one jump. Can't say whether it will work or not, but I suspect it would. You may have to manually add an extension onto the document when trying to open it. The Quark 6/7 extension for projects (thats what they now call documents) is .qxp
