LED Screen Flicker

I bought the new LED display MacBook Pro yesterday and the screen flickers when it isn't on max brightness.

Anyone else have this issue?

One reason why not everyone experiences flicker might be that the threshold of perceiving a display as flickering varies for every person.
See this article on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flickerfusionthreshold

The frequency at which those new LED displays flicker might just be very close to the "flicker fusion threshold" explained in the article. It also describes that ambient light and other conditions play a huge role in experiencing flicker.

I'm not a physician, I just wondered about this phenomenon.

Hm, I have a new 2.4ghz Santa Rosa MBP and the display is fine. Because I have a newborn I've been using it at odd hours and in low (zero) light conditions as well as normal daylight, and I've not noticed any shimmer at any light level. As it happens I use a dark gray background, too. Bought it in AZ. Guess I'm not one of the unlucky ones.

I think there is a burn in period, on my third one, I noticed that it went away after about a week >> and I did look for it every day (the flicker that is).

After noticing that the green charged light on my magsafe adapter flickered when the computer was powered completely off, I returned the whole thing.

Got a 5th one, it had a yellowish screen that some are reporting, and it had hot LED spots, really bright LED spots on the screen in three areas. I took it back.

Now I am on the 6th one, and I don't want to comment just yet. All I have to say is Quality Control has gone Waaaaaaaayward !

At least Apple is really good about returns, or I'd be in the PC camp. This is the kind of QC issues that we would expect from Dell.

I have hope that Apple will start putting out a better unit, once the flaws are acknowledged - I hope.

I'm planning to buy a MBP when the new OS is released. After reading the reports of faulty screens, I went out to my local Apple Store to see if there's been problems in Toronto. I spoke with a few of the employees and none of them had a MBP returned for this reason. I had a look at one of the display models. I read that the fault was clearly visable if you opened Aperture and used the middle grey background as a reference. Once Aperture was opened I adjusted the LED setting to 50%.I saw no trace of flicker or yellowing at the bottom of the screen. I think this problem unfortunately exists in some of the first releases of the new systems. I'm sure this will be resolved shortly. Apple will either fix the problem in the faulty machines, or replace them. They can't move forward and release new models with LED screens until this is addressed. Anyway, I can tell you that the LED screens up here in the Great White North are as pure as the driven snow. Stay cool.

My screen also flickers intermittently, but when it's on max brightness...i'm not sure if it's related to the heat, but my MBP definitely runs a little to hot.

Also, every now and then the color, mainly of black text will change to a lighter shade of black...almost a grey and then revert back to black. I notice the change occur more often while i'm scrolling down a screen with text.

Between this, the heat and my spacebar that squeaks when you type, i'm sure apple will loose some potential windows converts like me...honestly apple, test this stuff a little better, especially for higher priced products like this.

FYI - I purchased my MBP SR when they first came out via the online store.

2.4GHz 15" MacBook Pro here. I purchased this a week ago and it has the shimmer, most noticeable in the upper left quadrant of the screen. This is apparent with any dimming of the brightness other than full brightness. No other issues that I can see such as off color or dead pixels.

I'm really considering returning this one for another. I wish Apple would respond whether this is fixable with a software/firmware update or not!
