Bold text issue

I would like to point out a font issue that seems to be distinct from the text issue most people have (as I'm not having it and my Fonts.plist file looks just fine).

On many pages, bold text is not displayed.

For instance, on news.google.com, headlines are all missing.

I know many people have this issue (search for "bold" in this forum and you'll see) but it's being obscured by the more serious "no fonts at all" issue.

Has anybody found a workaround?

Same for me here. I believe however that this only happens to users that have their 'Regional and Language Options' settings set to something other that US English.

In another thread it was mentioned that setting those to US English and rebooting would resolve the issue. I have not tried that, since i do not want to change settings for all applications just because of safari, but you might want to give it a go.

I just do this and works some fine.....

1.- In the fonts.plist redirect all the BOLDS fonts tipes to te original font

EX: Arial Bold -> arial.ttf instance of arialbd.ttf

2.- Close all you programs

3.- delete the bold fonts of windows->font

EX: arialbd.ttf <-delete

4.- Start safari....

NOW THE BOLD TEXT WILL BE SHOWED USING THE OPEN TYPE OF THE ORIGINAL FONT INSTEAD OF THE BOLD TYPE OF THE FONT.

It works for me i hope this could help untill apple do something dor this...

GREETING FROM CHILE!!!!!

IT seems like it will works without deleting the bold fonts of your system...a friend told me....

Try only to redirect de bold font types of fonts.plist to the main font...

<key>Arial Bold</key>
<string>C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\arial.ttf</string>
<key>Arial Bold Italic</key>
<string>C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\arial.ttf</string>
<key>Arial Italic</key>

Hope this help....

No, I've tried and it didn't change anything.

The only conclusion I could draw so far is that Safari will display bold fonts when there is no bold variant installed on the system (for instance, the Impact font on a standard Windows installation). One exception, though: the Lucida Grande font has a bold variant and it is displayed correctly (however, it is not installed in Windows/Fonts but in the Safari resources).

unfortunately, this did not do the trick alone. after restarting still the same issue with bold fonts.

I then checked the box in the 'Default user account settings' field just below the above setting in the Advanced pane and also set default input language (in the Languages tab go to Details, then Settings tab an select English US) and restarted again.

This has solved the issue now.

After starting up Safari i can change back to another input language without problems, so it might not have needed this setting.

Also not that under the Regional Options tab, I still have my default non-English settings.

I believe that the current version of Safari only has the ressources for English language. When launched a plateform that use non-english languages, it may leads to pbs.
The way Apple non-beta apps are usually designed, they have all the ressources for the different languages included and the system automatically chose the one that is more appropriate for the user settings. So for me, it is just a pb of beta version.
Once I turned my windows version to english setting, I rcovered all the bold text but also it is no more crashing.
