No internet for you

I have had a macbook for quite a while now and it has always connected to my wireless fine. one day i went to a friends, connected to his internet fine, than came back home and my wireless wouldnt work.

The problem is my MacBook says that it is connected 100% to my wireless internet, but then i try to you, Firefox, Safari, or anything for going on the internet and it says i have no connection.

any ideas on whats wrong?

Go to System Preferences, go to Network, then select "AirPort" from the Show: menu. On the bottom right it should say "Assist Me...". Try going through that and see if it helps (try both Diagnostics and Assistant).

Your symptoms are familiar. Do you know if you updated to 10.4.10 in between?

I just installed 10.4.10 and am having this problem... anyone have any tips for rectifying the problem if it's 10.4.10 related?

Sorry so vague. Yeah, I was wondering if OS X updated while you were connected to your friend's network.

I guess I shouldn't pin all of these problems on 10.4.10 until I am absolutly sure, but it's the version everybody seems to be running with Max OS X self updating and all.

I was getting the exact same message on my new Macbook, that "Airport was connected but had a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet"

I switched to a WPA security system instead of WEP, and then it worked just fine. I still don't know what the initial problem was though.

OK, if all else fails and your settings are the same as when it worked let do this.
Turn off your computer.
Pull the Power adapter from the back of your ISP,s Modem
Pull the POwer Adapter from your Wireless Router.
Next you have to wait 5 minutes.
Next in this order.
Plug in your Internet Service Providers Modem/
Again you must wait a minimum of 1 Minute.
Now Plug in your wireless Router and again you must wait the 1 minute.
Now start your computer and try to get on the internet.

Well i had someone come and take a look at my computer and they found it was running on 6 something while my router was running at a higher program level.
he just fixed the router so that is compatible for all versions, and that fixed the problem
