iPhone 14 Pro battery draining quickly

Anyone else having issue with the battery health for iPhone 14 pro, especially after the latest iOS (17) update? If so, has anyone find any solutions to this?

In the past few weeks it went from 100% to 95% in the blink of an eye and I haven't changed anything in my usage or the apps I usually use. The phone is 10 months old, I feel it is just too new for the battery to be degrading like this. I always knew that Apple devices have these issues with the battery, but it just starts to be worse and worse with every device they release...

Unfortunately Apple Support has been totally useless, telling me essentially to stop using certain features (like "Always on display") or reset the phone and manually set it up. All of this while still being in warranty and paying for the extra warranty on top of this. Super disappointed in the solutions and the support received.

The best thing we can do is take a look at your battery activity, and take some steps to maximize your battery performance. Take a look at the steps and link below, test out the steps, and let us know if they are helpful.

Batteries - Maximizing Performance - Apple

"Tips for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Update to the latest software.

Always make sure your device is using the latest version of iOS.

  • If you are using iOS 5 or later, see if you need an update. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • If an update is available, you can plug your device into a power source and update wirelessly or plug it into your computer and update with the latest version of iTunes.

Learn more about updating iOS

Optimize your settings.

There are two simple ways you can preserve battery life — no matter how you use your device: adjust your screen brightness and use Wi‑Fi.

Dim the screen or turn on Auto-Brightness to extend battery life.

  • To dim, open Control Center and drag the Brightness slider to the bottom.
  • Auto-Brightness adjusts your screen to lighting conditions automatically. To activate it, go to Settings > Accessibility. Tap Display & Text Size, then turn on Auto-Brightness.

When you use your device to access data, a Wi‑Fi connection uses less power than a cellular network — so keep Wi‑Fi on at all times. To turn on Wi‑Fi, go to Settings > Wi‑Fi to access a Wi‑Fi network.

Enable Low Power Mode.

Introduced with iOS 9, Low Power Mode is an easy way to extend the battery life of your iPhone when it starts to get low. Your iPhone lets you know when your battery level goes down to 20%, and again at 10%, and lets you turn on Low Power Mode with one tap. Or you can enable it by going to Settings > Battery. Low Power Mode reduces display brightness, optimizes device performance, and minimizes system animations. Apps including Mail will not download content in the background, and features like AirDrop, iCloud sync, and Continuity will be disabled. You can still use key functions like making and receiving phone calls, email, and messages, accessing the Internet, and more. And when your phone charges up again, Low Power Mode automatically switches off.

View Battery Usage information

With iOS, you can easily manage your device’s battery life, because you can see the proportion of your battery used by each app (unless the device is charging). To view your usage, go to Settings > Battery.

Here are the messages you may see listed below the apps you’ve been using:

Background Activity. This indicates that the battery was used by the app while it was in the background — that is, while you were using another app.

  • To improve battery life, you can turn off the feature that allows apps to refresh in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and select Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi & Cellular Data, or Off to turn off Background App Refresh entirely.
  • If the Mail app lists Background Activity, you can choose to fetch data manually or increase the fetch interval. Go to Settings > Accounts & Passwords > Fetch New Data.

Location and Background Location. This indicates that the app is using location services.

  • You can optimize your battery life by turning off Location Services for the app. Turn off in Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
  • In Location Services, you can see each app listed with its permission setting. Apps that recently used location services have an indicator next to the on/off switch.

Home & Lock Screen. This indicates that the Home screen or Lock screen was displayed on your device. For example, the display was awakened by pressing the Home button or by a notification.

  • If an app frequently wakes your display with notifications, you can turn off push notifications for the app in Settings > Notifications. Tap the app and set Allow Notifications to Off.

No Cell Coverage and Low Signal. This indicates either that you are in a poor cell coverage area and your iOS device is searching for a better signal or that you’ve used your device in low-signal conditions, which has affected your battery life.

  • You can optimize your battery life by turning on Airplane mode. Open Control Center and tap the Airplane mode icon. Note that you cannot make or receive calls while in Airplane mode.

Plug in and power on your computer to charge your device.

Make sure your computer is plugged in and powered on when you’re using it to charge your iOS device via USB. If your device is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, your device’s battery may drain. Note that iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS cannot be charged with a FireWire power adapter or FireWire-based car charger."

Guys, it's time to ask us all if Apple takes care of its customers or not, I'm really tired of having the usual problems with batteries after every update, things that with other serious manufacturers don't happen. Listen, I live and work in Shanghai, any Chinese brand Xiaomi, Huawei, Vivo, etc.. guarantees two days of battery, there is no such thing that one of them lasts than 1 full day 24h, they do not heat up, they do not have simply any problems. And they cost less than half, if not a quarter. It is ridiculous that Apple produces products with constant problems, my own m2 MacAir has problems with automatic screen illumination.

Hello Irina

curiously I noticed a rapid decline in my battery duration. It prompted me to look at the battery health of my iPhone 14 Pro.

I discovered that at just 12 months old it has lost 13% capacity now stands at 87%

I’m noticing also that it hits the redline and am forced to plug it in twice a day.

This since upgrading to 17 seems to have exacerbated the battery decline.

I’m going to keep an eye on this and contact Apple support. I’ve also placed this in Feedback Assistant.

I reckon something is not right here and that this may go further as there are many threads about this.

good luck your end.

I am facing the same issue. It’s been less than 10 months and my battery life is already 90%. I have had several discussions with Apple team but as usual Apple never accepts their mistakes. I can prove technically that it’s Apple IOs that’s causing heating up, quick draining of battery and reducing battery life. Not sure if it’s technical problem or done on purpose so that people change phones sooner. I have been Apple phone user for 15 years and nothing much has changed in my usage for the battery to drain so fast.

The fact is Apple products are going bad to worst. I am seeing that with my MacBook Pro as well.

Hope Apple realises where they are heading

Yeah, I already tried and they told me I should disable my VPN (which I also used from day 1 of buying this phone) and reset my whole device and manually install it from scratch. Either of these options seem a bit bogus to me honestly. In the era of AI and automation, setting up a device manually and not being able to restore from backup seems just rudimentary to me. Especially when we have logs that can be checked lol.

I won’t repeat what everyone else has already said here, but I, too, am having all the same problems on my 14 Pro Max, 1Tb phone. It’s only 14 months old, & already my “Maximum Capacity” has fallen to 84%!!

Before I updated to IOS 17, my battery percentage would be 45% by the end of day. Now, by noon, I’m lucky if the battery percentage is 20%. I go nowhere without a carrying a backup battery.

This is the worst iPhone experience I’ve had, and been using iPhones since 2009!

Apple needs to either fix this issue, or replace these faulty batteries.

The same thing is happening to me with my iPhone pro max 14, but I also bought a brand new iPad Pro, the newest one, this year and it’s also needing to be charged way more frequently than my older one. Something is seriously wrong with whatever batteries they are using for new devices. I’ve been an Apple user for decades and it’s just gotten crummier and crummier.

1. Check Battery Health: It's worth checking the battery health of your iPhone 14 Pro. To do this, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Here, you can see the maximum capacity of your battery and if it has significantly degraded. Apple's official recommendation is to replace the battery if the maximum capacity drops below 80%.

2. Update iOS: Sometimes battery-related issues can be addressed through iOS updates. In some cases, particular iOS versions can introduce new battery management improvements that may address rapid battery drain. Therefore, it's always a good idea to keep your device up to date.

3. App Usage Analysis: Consider checking the Battery section in the Settings app to see which apps consume the most power. You may discover an app that's causing higher-than-expected battery drain. If so, you can try updating the app or contacting the app's developer for support.

4. Reset Settings: If you haven't already tried, you can attempt to reset all settings on your device. This won't erase your data but will reset all settings, including Wi-Fi passwords, wallpaper, and home screen layout. You can do this by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

5. Battery Replacement: If the battery health is significantly below the expected level and you're experiencing rapid degradation, it might be worth considering discussing a potential battery replacement with Apple Support, especially since your device is still under warranty.

Regarding your disappointment with the support received, it's understandably disheartening when expectations aren't met, especially when paying for extra warranty coverage. If you're unsatisfied with the support, it might be worth escalating the issue to a supervisor or manager at Apple Support for further assistance.
