I bought my third gen airpods a year and a half ago and I’ve noticed that the sound is quite low even if I turn the volume all the way to the max. I tried cleaning the speaker part and nothing works. Some times, the left airpod is also louder than the right one.

I had the same issue with the volume sounding very low when listening to Apple Music on my AirPods. I tried everything and couldn’t figure it out. I finally solved my issue which was the Sound Check setting in Apple Music. Turning this setting off increased the volume significantly.
After trying all of the suggestions in this thread to no avail, I then tried brushing the metal mesh with a toothbrush. Voila! My AirPods have never sounded so clear and loud!
I just wanted to affirm that this works as well. I struggled with the low volume for over a year after mine dropped

This totally worked for me! I was skeptical about sucking on the airpod 😅 but it was indeed clogged. Once air started going through proper sound came back! This is definitely a design flaw. Airpods gen 1 do not suffer from this issue.
My goodness this really worked! I was reading this in the office and, at a loss for rubbing alcohol, used the remnants of a bottle of gin in the staff kitchen. The change in volume knocked my socks off!
