iPhone 4 Contacts Disappeared After Receiving Text Message

Just rebooted phone using the two button method, then turned back on while holding the main button (two button method). Everything came back and, so far, is still there.

The two button reboot helped me today. It took a second after I opened contacts, then they reappeared.

I have found a solution - at last!!!!!!

I tried EVERYTHING from this forum and nothing worked. Then I found another apple user site. They had a suggestion form replacing names one at a time, but mysteriously, you do it once and then everything comes back.

Here's what you do:

- go to messages

- start creating a message by typing in the name of your proposed recipient. Here's the first odd thing; although your address good is largely gone, it will still prompt with a name if you've sent them a message previously.

- then tap on the "i" button in the circle at the end of the line where the suggested name appears

- save the name as a new contact

- and then...hey presto, all your contacts reappear. Utterly weird, but it worked.

Shows how crap and full of bugs the whole thing is, and how singularly unhelpful apple were but never mind.

Tried that, but the i button doesn't show up for the contacts I need to add, but the name does even though when I search contacts they aren't there and no name when I look at the texts.

Hi everyone! I had the same issue but I figured it out, at least on my phone 4s. Try going to your settings>iCloud and make sure the "contacts" option is turned on. I also had to turn on the "iCloud" option as well as this is where the contact information is stored.

You are a genious, it worked!! at the same time my calendar disappeared, any suggestions?

If you created a backup some time before the update, it is possible to get your contacts back. You can manually extract data out of the backup using a iPhone backup extractor software. It should be easy. It's a good idea as well to sync it with a PIM application as appropriate such as Gmail etc.

I have an Iphone 4S and the IOS 7 installed.

I tried all the suggestions listed here but unfortunately none of them worked. However, I was able to fix it through another method:

1. Go the "Contacts" app

2. Tap on the "Groups" option on the top left

3. Tap on the "Hide All Contacts" option; then immediately

4. Tap on the "Show All Contacts" option (check marks with appear and disappear from steps 3 and 4); then

5. Tap "Done" on the top left

This will take you back to the All contacts screen. You will begin to notice that the contacts now slowly start appearing again. This will take a couple of minutes but the contacts should repopulate eventually.
