I found another reason why my bluetooth keyboard would not pair with my iPad2. Similar problem as someone else, but slightly different. I had a second ipad 2 in the room 20' away and it was already paired with the keyboard. I had to forget the device on the first iPad 2 and then the second device paired no problem. Careful when you have more than one iPad 2 in the room.
I have the same problem with a A1016 wireless keyboard from Apple. I can see it but can't pair it. When i click enter, an info box show me briefly the pin code i should give to pair it but without letting me another chance to type it.
Funny thing i've another bluetooth from microsoft wich pair perfectly with my ipad2, and this Apple keyboard works fine with my pc... Of course i'd prefer the opposite.
Just thought I'd mention that I've had this problem of not pairing up with my iPad 2 as well.
I tried all of these suggestions and it still would not pair up until I finally realized from the post that mentioned the 2nd iPad being within 20 ft and it dawned on me that my kids have iPods that they often have paired with my speakers before and that was what was causing my interference!
It's just a process of elimination but sometimes it can be a more frustrating process when there are no wires leading straight to the problem!
Thanks so much to everyone who helped piece together this mystery.
:)
Thank you, jonclinch.
I was frustrated for not being able to pair my Apple keyboard with my iPad2. I just realized from your post that it can be paired with only one device at a time. Actually, I was pairing the keyboard with my Desktop PC. I just truned my Desktop PC off and then started paring it again with my iPad2. It works fine now. I am writing this reply using the keyboard :D
Thank you once more for your suggestions.
remember to move away from other discoverable devices as the keyboard will try and pair with last device .
i carry around my iphone all the time and i leave it in bluetooth "on" mode. When i walk into work, it automatically syncs with the keyboard, which then prevents my Ipad - when i turn it on - to sync with the keyboard. Unfortunately, you have no way of knowing that unless you try the keyboard on your iphone because the message you get on the iPad is the same as if the keyboard was dead or 1 mile away. So check all surrounding devices to see if they hijacked your keyboard. This goes back to the principle that the keyboard can only sync with one device at a time, but seeing that is not always easy. My next step after posting this is to have the iPhone "forget" the keyboard.
