HDMI adapter does not work on IPad 2. Not unique to this cable or to my ipad

I bought the apple branded HDMI adapter for my new IPad 2. When I plug it in it will give me a black screen and will, at most, very very sporadically flash the ipad screen for about one second then go back to black. Before assisting please read below to see what I have tried already:

I tried the cable on 2 different IPad2s and an original IPad.

I tried a different cable of the same design on 2 different IPad2s

I tried using both cables on two different tvs and using two different hdmi cables

I also tried powering off

I also tried running for-sure-supposed-to-work apps (although the IPad2 should mirror so that was unnecessary too).

I took to the Apple Store and they had no clue what was going on either. Anyone know if this adapter is just a defective product in general? What other things can I do to put my IPad on the tv...it was a large part of why I bought it.

My 5.0.1 Ipad comes up with the same incompatability message on rebooting. Nothing at all happens if the ipad is already on when I plug the HDMI lead in. I have a Toshiba Regza approx 4 years old. The TV works perfectly well via HDMI with my windows lap top. I've reported to Toshiba and they are not aware of any issues but also said that it was possible that the tv is not compatible. Guess I need to try on another TV.

My adapter works fine on my kids iPads but not on my, and I can't find any difference in between them, maybe one app is creating this problem?

I even reset it but it still not working.

Did anyone have luck solving this " not compatible" problem?

What kind of application do you try to send the HDMI signals from, and are you sending them to a HD TV?

I have this same problem as well. Am mightily dissapointed with the mighty Apple on this issue. Bought the HDMI adapter at a ridiculous price of SGD59 and it was working fine for a month, until one day a message pop up that iPad does not support this (HDMI adapter) device. What is going on? Apple where are your support and answers, I don't see it in this forum or any other forums. All the rebooting suggestions that are suggested by some good people here do not work. HDMI cable and tv is not at fault, I tested it with my non-apple computer and it mirrors my computer to the tv perfectly.

Please someone from Apple solve this problem, I am getting really annoyed paying a premium price for a device that do not work!

No solution here, but more problems.

I bought this apple-branded, quite expensive AV adaptor.

When I connect my iPad 2 (4.3.3) I get the error message; "This accessory is not supported by iPad"

... and that's it. no flickering or flashing, no mirror, no video. Just a blank screen.

Tried with 3 different screens (TV and 2 computer monitors) and 2 different cables.

But when I connect my iPhone 4, with the AV adaptor, works fine.

so it's not the adaptor, or the monitors, or the cable.

it's the iPad.

Shoulda bought the cheapo knock off.

I have an iPad 2 which works with the hdmi to tv. But today it stops having sound, only picture. I haven't use it since upgrading to ios6. Today is the first time using it. Is it possible that my adapter doesn't work with ios6?

That might be possible. Does the HDMI cable work with sound if you connect with another device instead of the iPad 2?

My ipad2 ISO 5.0.1, will not work either. It worked when we first got the iPad last year. Since I upgraded the os it no longer works. I turned the IPad off plugged everything up and then turned it back on. It came up and then had a bubble on the screen that said "this accessory is not compatible with iPad" with an ok button. Did they take support for the adapter out of IOS 5.0.1?

That's strange. Have you updated your TV's firmware in the past then? Do you remember or can you find out who has manufactured the HDMI cable. 😕
