I am such a dumb ***. This fixed it instantly - my wifi was not on!
I had the same problem, and have tried all sorts of potential solutions based on lots and lots of conversations about this problem. I checked my wireless router settings, I checked my firewall settings, I un-installed and re-installed software, I configured and re-configured the sync process...all without success.
I FINALLY found a fix for my situation! (By the way, I have an iPhone 4, and I have Windows 7). The way I was able to fix this was by doing the following: (1) Disable Apple Mobile Device service via msconfig, (2) Restart the computer, (3) Enable Apple Mobile Device service via msconfig, (4) Restart the computer, (5) Power down iPhone, (6) Power up iPhone, and finally, (7) Open iTunes. Voila! 😁
This may not be the right solution for you, but at least it's another one for the books on this annoying problem! Good Luck.
Thank you bustersapom, this works perfectly !
Spot on mate, thanks, but all i had to do was restart the service and it worked straight away.
Hi all!
My solution for this problem was:
1. turn off firewall in System Preferences > Security&Privacy > Firewall > Turn off Firewall
2. manually sync iPad in Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync > Sync now - it synced
3. turn on firewall on Mac back
Now all is OK.
Mac OS X 10.8.2
iTunes 11.0.1
iPad 4 Wi-Fi 64Gb white
iOS 6.0.1
Good luck!
@just add alcohol,
That did the trick. I noticed when I opened sharing that the tick box by internet sharing was grayed out and to the right of the checklist it said that I could not enable internet sharing because I had not selected a port. I ticked ethernet under that error, left internet sharing unticked, and my iPad immediately popped up on my iTunes. Thanks for the head's up. Its funny sometimes what weird little glitches will pop up and make things wonky.
worked for me too.iphone 4s io6,windows 7
The "Fix" For Me:
1. An iMac Computer.
2. An AirPort Extreme Router.
NO LONGER HAVE ANY ISSUES REGARDING WiFi Syncing or Backing Up To iCloud.
Looking at all the posts and solutions, it would seem that there is more than one problem and more than one solution. I've had similar problems and was able to get it working temporarily, but eventually it would quit because my iphone couldn't find my computer. Every time I would try to force a sync it would say "looking for imac" and then time out.
Below is what I tried:
Unfortunately, I can't say exactly what did the trick, but I think it may have been deleting the itunes cache and preference files. Either way it's working for me now. Hope this helps someone else.
What worked for me, and this is so silly IMO, is in iTunes (on my Mac) under Preferences/Devices I checked "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" (it was unchecked) then clicked OK. Then I unchecked "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" and again clicked OK. Then from iPhone, not connected via USB, only Wifi, under Settings/General/iTunes Wi-Fi Sync I hit "Sync Now" and amazingly the iPhone showed up in iTunes. It didn't sync this first time but after I clicked Cancel on the iPhone and then "Sync Now" again this time the Wifi sync worked and is now working.
It is silly that you have to toggle the dang "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" option but it worked.

THIS WORKED FOR ME!!! on 4S! thx.
Just spoke to apple,
You cant use Wifi Sync when ICloud backup is on. Once it is turned off Wi Fi Sync should work fine. Worked for me, hope it works for you.
