My Iphone 5 "End Call" dose not work.

When I am finished with my call I attempt to push the 'End Call' button. The button color changes, signifying an action implimented, but then the screen flashes black then reappears and I am still in the call(timer running). If I depress the home button I return to my home screen with the green banner at the top signifying that I am still in a call. The only current way to terminate my calls is by depressing the power button on top. Unlock slider works and no trouble in any other app in that part of the screen. Is this a known issue, any solutions?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.1

Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

I think I have figured out what this is... I am having the same exact issue, and I also have a Lifeproof case on my 5, but whether the case is on or off, it still doesn't work right. I have reason to believe that the issue is caused by the proximity sensor that is built into the top portion of the phone. For example, I also have an application that monitors my sleep patterns (it's called Sleep Cycle) and it also utilizes the iPhone 5's proximity sensor. The app requires you to lay your phone face-down on your bed while you sleep. When you wake up, you have to slide the slider (at the bottom of the screen) in order to stop the activity. But when I try to do this, the screen shuts off when my fingers touch the bottom of the screen and I have to manually quit the application in order for me to stop the activity. And this is what happens when you end a call as well. So I think there is a glitch with the proximity sensor in the phone... I wish Apple would fix this because it is annoying as **** when I wake up in the morning... -_-

Thanks,

Josh

I have the same problem, but this did not occur until I got a replacement iPhone 5. I had to replace my other one for another reason. Using the same LifeProof case though. What's weird is if I just open the flap at the bottom the "End Call" button will work. I have meticulously tried to put pressure on the case where the flap opens to see if I could get the "End Call" button to stop working and it will remain working until the flap "clicks" back in place. This is so weird.

OMG. i just tried as suggested by JN5. I have 6.1.4 and LifeProof case. With the bottom flap open, the END BUTTON works. this is really wierd.

But i tried another thing. I closed the flap, and removed the headphone jack knob. The END BUTTON works very well. I am however trying to reseat the phone again on LifeProof case with the knob already sitting tight.

Will let you all know if i see any success.

That was my problem too. The plot, however, thickens. I suffered from both the same muffled sound and END CALL issues using the LifeProof Fre case with my iPhone 5. END CALL would not work under any circumstances with the LifeProof Fre case on unless, as you have discovered, you open the hatch to the charging port or unscrew the cap for the headset jack, thereby somehow ostensibly releasing air pressure. END CALL suddenly worked perfectly and no more muffled sound. I say the plot thickens because, low and behold, I exchanged the Fre case for the new nuud case hoping to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, and guess what? END CALL, in the absence of a screen, works just fine as you'd expect, but the muffled sound continues unless I release inside air pressure by opening the charge port hatch or unscrewing the cap for the headphone jack. Unbelievable. So when I receive a call or place 1, I have to open the charging hatch just to be heard intelligibly. My son, on the other hand, has never experienced any of these iPhone 5 problems either with the Fre or nuud case. I bought my iPhone 5 in December, 2012; he got his through BestBuy's recent, free-exchange promotion a month or so ago. I'll keep you posted as to whether I ever solve the problem. My iPhone 5 only works without incident when it's not enclosed in a LifeProof case.

OK first off had not heard of the Lifeproof Nuud until NewsToYou replied. Kind ironic given their screen name. So I looked it up and it looks really cool and I want it now. Anyway, I resolved my issue by calling LifeProof and explaining my issue. They were very good about handling this. They asked where I purchased and about what date. The 30 day warranty was long past but they did not mention any concerns about that. I had to take the phone out of the case and give them some very hard to read numbers off of each side. I recieved a replacement one in about 5 days. After placing my phone in the new case I could tell the screen was much tighter and completely flush with the iphone's screen. When I initially bought the first one at Best Buy I noticed the screen was not flush and I didn't like this. I took it back to Best Buy and asked a sales associate about it, and he said they were all like this. At that time my phone worked fine so I moved on. Maybe they had a bad batch and are aware of it. If the Best Buy guy was not trying to apease me then he was under the impression they were all like that and, hence, maybe the bad batch? By the way with the new case I have had no issues.

Not sure if anyone on this thread is still having this issue. I only just started to have this same problem recently even though I've had both Iphone 5 and Lifeproof case for over a year. I just tried opening the charging flap as some of the later posts recommended, and that worked like a charm. How weird. I also found what I think is a slightly less annoying fix. First, press and hold down the main/home button and then tap the end call button while still holding down the main/home button. That does the trick. I'm guessing that depressing the main/home button has a similar effect of changing the pressure inside the case just as opening the charging flap does (per other posts). And after thinking about it, now that I have an easy fix, I can stop being annoyed and see that the silver lining is that the glitch keeps your face or clumsy fingers from ending calls by accident, haha! Glass half full! Hope this helps anyone having the same problem. Cheers.
