Ipad won't connect to wifi after update iOS 7.0.6

After I updated my Ipad Mini's iOS to 7.0.6 I am not able to connect to Wi-Fi. Its a first generation ipad mini with no cellular. I am able to see the available wifi networks but when I try to join it show a screen with message saying "Unable to join the Network". Sometimes it does connect to the network for 1 minute or so, but when I try to browse the internet to see if it is actually working it doesn't download anything or it does download for a while and very slow until it disconnects afterwards from the Wi-Fi.

I have tried the following with no success:

- Turning WiFi on and off.

- Turning iPad on and off.

- Hard reset pressing the On/Off Button holding Home Button

- Resetting Network Settings

- Erase All Content and Settings

- Restoring Ipad

- Rebooting router and disconnecting it from power for several minutes

My other devices work well in my home network & I have tried connecting on several public and private wifi networks with my iPad but still no success. Before the update I didn't have any trouble connecting to my home network or any network. Has anybody experienced the same issues? How can I fix my ipad so that I can use the WiFi normally as I did before?

I woul mention the same in my previos message that, my iPad is getting connected in anywhere in the world except my home network in Moscow. Just because of that I think, something wrong with the network configuration. But I checked the configuration and with the best of my knowledge, I did not see any obstacle.

It is so funny that I am writing these messages from the same network but with my MacBook. 🙂

Don't know what to do!

cosmosist - I had the same issue and tried many things. What ended up working for me is that I deleted/removed my home network in the Settings on the iPad, then reset the iPad (hold home and sleep buttons), then once the iPad rebooted I went back into Settings and re-connected to my home wifi network...and everything was back to normal.

Hope this works for you.

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Unable to Connect After iOS Update - saw this solution on another post.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4010130

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

I use a network extender in my house. After updating to 7.0.6 I can no longer connect to the extension network. The main network connection is fine, but the extension connect just goes into spin mode and doesn't connect. All our other wireless devices (2 gen1 iPads with iOS 6, 1 ipad air with 7.0.4, two laptops, an xbox and a Samsung BluRay) all connect to the extension network fine, it is only my iPad after 7.0.6 upgrade that is broken. Just to be sure, I went through the exercises above to no avail.

One other minor tidbit -- my extension uses a slightly different security protocol than my main network. The main network is WPA-PSK while the extension is WPA2-PSK (to accommodate the Samsung). Given that the 7.0.6 update was a rush job to fix the SSL encryption, I'm betting they hosed the WPA2 encryption layer and broke the password authentication.

Most wireless routers will do WPA, WPA2, and WEP. If your other devices will cope, you might try changing the security protocol on the wireless and seeing if the iPad connects. Sadly not a choice for me, so I'll have to wait until Apple fixes this issue --hopefully along with the embedded YouTube video error in Safari.

Mar 6, 2014 6:06 AM in response to S purpuratus

Purpuratus, this sounds a lot like my situation - just with a lot more moving parts. The theory behind how I fixed mine (as described above) is to:

1. Completely remove/delete the network from iPad in the wifi settings.

2. Shut the iPad off.

3. Refresh/restart ALL of the network components so that there is a fresh 'handshake' between all of the devices.

4. Restart the iPad.

5. Go to Settings, Wifi, and select your network.

I am not technically savvy enough to describe what this did, other than to say that it made the iPad think it was looking at this network for the first time. I too, tried everything else but it was this specific theory that worked for me.

This was an iPad Mini in a house with a number of mac's, pc's, iphone's, and adroid devices. The mini was the only one with a connectivity issue.

Mar 6, 2014 5:58 PM in response to JJDan

Turns out it was even more insidious, I think. The extension was trying to pass the authentication through to the main network, but everyone had slightly different encryption keys. Connecting directly to the main refreshed the ipad to main key, but the extension to main key was altering the newly encrypted ipad key in a way that the main key was having trouble with. Cycling the power on the main and extension at the same time got everyone back in synch without having to rest the password on nearly a dozen different devices (and I am appalled at how many wireless thing are in my house).

Modern networking is pretty much a practical application of Clarke's Law.

Mar 6, 2014 9:31 PM in response to atreca

Hello All,

I have tried everything that has been suggested on the posts but still no luck, I haven't been able to connect to my home Zhone ONT like I did before. However I have been able to connect to a TP Link Router on another room that is connected by ethernet to the Zhone ONT, but even though I still experience issues since it won't show anything on the iPad when I try to browse, see the news, try to send a message/email, or use an app that requires internet.

I've contacted my ISP several times and they've even come to my house to verify my service/case, we tried everything.. from changing the name of my wireless network, change password, change security protocol, change wifi channel and other configurations, they even changed the actual Router Device for another one from the same model, but still I am not able to connect to my home Wifi only from my iPad Mini.

My ISP has told me that the issue is within my device (iPad Mini), since other devices such as iPhones, other iPad Mini, iMac, Macbook Pro, Apple TV, a Speaker and a TV are all able to connect to the WiFi without any issues. They've said they can't do anything else for me.

My iPad is in perfect conditions, I've never dropped it or anything so I really believe it must be the iOS 7.0.6 update. I've noticed that several people are having same issues with Wifi and other issues like battery drain because of this update, I just don't know why news or articles haven't acknowledged it. Guess I will just have to wait for update 7.1 to see if it fixes on its own.

Thanks All.

Mar 6, 2014 10:12 PM in response to atreca

I have exactly the same situation and also my ISP hava done the same things. They came home and checked whatever they can and said either router (TP-Link) or my iPad is failing.

After that, my iPad is getting access to internet time to time. I think this is the loss of protocol or whatever it is called. It is always connected to the network, but internet access comes and goes. It is not reliable.

I agree wtih your comments that we should wait for the update, to solve this issue.

Thanks to all for updates on this issue.

After having all those trials my iPad would not get connected to my home network and I gave up!

I do not remember where did I saw a satatement that if you hold your iPad on your hand it is getting difficulty to connect to the network. I had outerbox protection cover and I put it on.

After that my iPad is getting connection and do not loose it. It is weird isn't it? I tried this solution about a week and it works.

UPDATE: 6/1/14 forgot to update this post. Home network connection all good; Internet connectivity all good. Office network wouldn't see my device. Same issue with other mobile devices that regularly share the network while in the office. Technician came in and resolved it while I was working from home. I think it was the firewall settings. All's good now. Was never iOS or my device. 🙂
