People have done clean installs of OS X with .10 and
are getting the pop, and clean installs of .9 and not
getting it. I fail to see how that is not
comprehensive enough proof?
Please consider:
1. Among users of the listed models using external audio systems:
A. Some report getting pops only after the update.
B. Some report getting
no pops after the update.
C. Some report the update
eliminated pops present beforehand.
D. Some report getting pops both before & after the update.
2. Some users of PPC based computers also report getting pops after the update.
3. Among those hearing pops:
A. Some report only single pops just prior to & 20-30 seconds after playing sounds.
B. Some report other noises (crackles, multiple pops) not consistent with the above.
C. Some report the pops are inaudible on internal speakers, others say they are clearly audible.
D. Some report hearing the pops only when using the headphone/line output, others when using the optical output as well.
E. Some report their USB and/or Firewire audio interfaces are affected, others report theirs aren't.
And so on. Can a flaw in the update explain all these reports? Do you see a common cause -- or for that matter a common symptom -- in all of them?
There are people from all four corners of the planet
here, moaning, so that wipes the geographical claim.
That's the problem: there is a lot more moaning than studied analysis or troubleshooting going on. (There is some of the latter, so kindly don't say I said otherwise.) Many users report here little more than that they hear pops after the update with a particular model & demand that Apple fix it. This isn't very helpful for themselves or for the user community in general. In light of the above, the issue isn't that simple.
This is a user-to-user help forum, not a platform for moaning or ranting. (If necessary, refer to the terms of use, which make this very clear.) It has a very good track record of isolating & solving problems -- sometimes better that Apple Support's -- but
only when people provide enough information to work with, keep an open mind, do not ignore whatever doesn't support their preconceived notions about causes & cures, & generally behave in a courteous, civilized manner. Please keep in mind that you are talking with other users, not Apple employees. We have no reason to "shill" for the company.
Is it possible that there is a flaw (or several flaws) in the update? Of course there is! But it is also possible that the same symptoms (note the plurality) have other causes that can be eliminated by user action. It is also possible, perhaps probable, that both are true.
So it really boils down to this: does it make any sense to just wait for a patch or live with a work-around until one appears? Let's say a patch does appear. Is it going to solve everyone's problem(s)? History strongly suggests otherwise. Should this happen to you, have you gained anything by waiting?
