Same here. Installed the update & now my drive seems
dead. Nothing happens when I try to enter a disk.
Anyone know if there is a diagnostics for the drive?
Is it possible to uninstall a firmware update? I
really need my drive for important project. THANKS!

Same problem. I call Apple and he said change the DVD, the firmware is not installed correctly.... Apple say no diagnostics for the drive... no uninstall this firmware.. simply change the DVD... Your DVD is now dead.
Good news...

2.1 update killed my drive last night!
Is this an installer virus????

No, it's not a virus... it's only this firmware... Many mac is working fine, but many mac is killed the drive. If this firmware kill your drive, change the drive. This firmware disable your DVD, and your DVD now is never work agan. In your mac your DVD now is never talk to your bus, because the firmware is hardware program, if this program is not install fine your hardware not working..

Moral to the story: Do nothing. Wait until Apple
releases another superdrive firmware update to fix
this.

If your DVD not accept the disk, Your DVD is DEAD... Apple can't fix with another firmware because the firmware is hardware software.. and this firmware broke your DVD... Change the DVD your DVD is finish...
