. I understand that the transfer of the number might take some time, but I can't use ANY of the other features until this activation is complete! It shouldn't have to be that way. And the manuals tell you it's supposed to work without the transfer.

Grr.

I called AT&T about it and the rep politely told me I have to wait 6 hours for activation. Then he asked me to rate the call. I was like: how do you think I'm going to rate you? I hope things go smoothly after this...

This is bull. Basically, according to AT&T, our new $600 toy will be a brick for the next 24 hours. If there is anybody from Apple reading this forum: this is a really bad way to welcome all of us new AT&T subscribers, coming from places such as Verizon, to your family.

Of course AT&T's phone support is not being helpful either. Looks like everybody is just running around with their heads chopped off...

I have had mine for an hour and a half, now (short line in Muncie, IN). Still waiting for AT&T to let me use it. I would thikn that already being an AT&T customer, it would go more quickly, but alas…

An early caveat: The iPhone requires activation even for iPod features. While you wait for an email from AT&T, you cannot do anything but look at the pretty earth picture.

Oh wait, I can dial 911! Woo hoo! I knew waiting in that line would pay off!

iTunres is telling me that my already existing AT&T account (Family Plan) is not eligible for iPhone activation!

I've been on hold for over an hour with AT&T customer support to resolve the issue, but they don't know what the problem is.

Funny thing is, they folks at the Apple Store were so amazingly helpful and efficient.... who would've thought that it's the phone company that would make this new purchase so unpleasant? 🙂
