Untested my ARSE!!! Don't try and tell me that Apple hasn't tested this thing. It's ATT... they can't even get their computers, which aren't Apple computers, to friggin' work at the store on the local level. I agree with the above poster... if I bought a new 'Geo" when it came out, by GOD I hope I wouldn't have to wait several hours for the engine to start!

PowerMac dual 1.8 Mac OS X (10.3.7) what?? I have 6 more Macs!!

MacDailyNews.com:

iBrick: Apple and AT&T botch iPhone activation at launch

Apple and AT&T seem to have their signals crossed. Multiple MacDailyNews readers and users in Apple Discussions (Apple.com > Support > Discussions > iPhone > Phone) are reporting their iPhones are being turned into iBricks while they wait for activation.

After much time on the phone with both AT&T and Apple Support, this is what we believe is the problem...

Yep. My existing Cingular phones had their SIMs deactivated the minute iTunes presented me with that statement. I called AT&T and was told my switch was in the queue and it was first come, first served. The CSR said iTunes was being slow. Told me I have to wait for confirmation. It's been three hours and no emails yet for either phone. Guess I'll check in the morning.

Just wanted to get in line (again) and register my frustration so Apple has an accurate count.

Details:
Phone purchased in Louisville, KY @ approximately 8:30PM Eastern Time.

Got home, ran through activation process with number being ported from T-Mobile. Received activation in progress email at 9:23 PM

Two hours later and still waiting.

If only I could at least run through the non phone portions of the shiny glass brick, I could occupy myself while waiting for the phone portion. Whose idea was it to not allow this? Bad idea. Very bad.. I cannot stress how bad of an idea this was. This is the opposite of customer service. My old T-Mobile phone is actually laughing at me..

CALL 1-800-MYiPHONE or 694-7466, real Apple reps, real Helpful!!! At least I felt I got somewhere, it took a while, but i have to wait for my #s to get ported from T-Mobile.

The guys here know what they are talking about and are pleasant, AT&T reps sounded like a bunch of grannies or pedophiles, that don;t know dizzle! (this would be great if I were the first to use the word DIZZLE instead of male member in the forums!)

Apple users are Originators!!! Yeah us!!! I loved that about the Apple Store, it made you feel like you are truly part of a family! Even if that family is a bunch of kids applauding you at $10 an hour 🙂

Same issue here. I've had the "requires additional time to complete" message for about three hours so far. I was on the phone with Apple earlier, and got some of the same information that has already been mentioned (look for the e-mail, check your spam folder, it could take a while).

One more thing: I hope the signal strength meter in the upper left doesn't accurately reflect the iPhone's ability to connect; my previous phone had five bars everywhere in my home, but my iPhone is sitting there with one pathetic little bar while I wait for activation. Anyone else seeing similar behavior?
