Well it's been 19 hours, still no activation.
If Apple is listening, You should have picked a better partner for the service, at least one that wasn't so brain dead-!!
Also the least Apple should have done is let us activate all the other features of the phone without the phone calls, like web access via wifi networks, the camera, let us sync address book and ical, load songs and video's, etc.
Now when I go out I'm going to take my new beautiful phone that doesn't do anything!
What a great selling tool - NOT!
Maybe Apple can modify their software to allow this to happen?
Let me know if anyone agrees with me.

I'm very upset the way the iphone lauch is being handled. It has been over 36hrs since i have had service. I cannot check messages or retrieve important work related info. at this time. I believe that AT&T owns it's unsatisfied customers. I have been with ATT/cingular for years and have been very happy until now. This situation is very disheartening.

Perhaps this is the reason why the roll-out was staggered by time zone? By giving each area an hour to respond, Apple/AT&T may have thought that they would be able to handle the activation process transparently. Clearly that didn't happen, and now there are a lot of unhappy customers. The iPhone will not be the first product that was harmed by its overall popularity.

I can only tell those that are having activation problems that the wait is worth it, because the phone is just wonderful.

I'm going on 37 hours of waiting for some stupid email. I've had several conversations with AT&T, Apple and my previous provider, T-Mobile.

This morning I confirmed that the number port was complete. Only to then find that my old phone is now useless. AT&T is supposedly calling me back in the next hour to help complete whatever the hold up is....

Honestly, I beyond explanation of how frustrated I am. Happy for all those that seem to have been lucky enough to begin using their iPhones.

Mine finally activated at about 3:30AM this morning. I'd sent in the activation in iTunes Friday at about 11:30pm. About 20 minutes ago, I got the text that my number had been fully transferred.

It was frustrating to wait 28 hours before I could do anything with the iPhone, but it is a great device... once it starts working. Hopefully these are just launch surge issues and not everyone will have as disappointing experience going forward. Such is the price we pay being early adopters.

My hope is that AT&T will recognize how much they messed up the launch for those early adopters & will do the right thing:

In my mind, the right thing is eliminate the $36 activation charge (since they didn't even activate it in a reasonable time frame) and give one month of free service. It's a small price for them to pay to avoid really bad word of mouth from the early adopters.

Apple on the other hand nailed it. The in store experience was awesome and the device is the best out there by far. Hopefully they can push AT&T enough to do the right thing I outlined earlier.

Best of luck to everyone still waiting, it will come soon....

I'm finally activated. After one last trip to an AT&T Store (where I was finally migrated to the new Network) and another call to 8774174500, they asked me for my SIM and IME #s and lo and behold my service came up. I had bars and Edge service! Once again a believer (not that I ever TRULY gave up hope).

the iPhizzle is SICK!

Good look to all you soldiers still tryin' to activate.

Jeez. About a million people trying to activate at the same time... Of course there's going to be some problems.

I don't think it's AT&T's fault directly. Even with all the hype and awareness of the iPhone, I don't think anyone, even Apple, could have expected it to pull in more customers to AT&T in 4 hours than they normally recieve in half a year. Even the nation's largest cell phone company can't possibly keep up with that. So you're havin' some trouble gettin' it goin'... Jeez, calm down. Just be happy that when it's finally done activating (even if it takes a week), that you'll own the most revolutionary mobile device since the first Apple PowerBook was developed in '91.

I'm a new AT&T customer, I'm not transferring my old cell number and I'm 48 hours into waiting for my phone to turn on. If I had any idea Apple would drop the ball this bad on a product that's been as marketed as iPhone I would have saved my $600.00 Apple and AT&T have simultaneously insulted everyone who mistakenly believed that a product with the price tag of iPhone would deliver what it promised right out of the box

If you read the forums, you'll see that there is a way to get your phone activated. Basically, you have to cancel your previous activation and then do it again.

I got mine at 6:30 Friday, and after waiting 28 hours, called AT&T. They cancelled the first activation and I initiated the process a second time.

I got activated immediately.

Try it.

I've had it! The iBrick is back in it's box and tomorrow will be going back to the Apple Store. I called them and told them I was fed up with waiting 3 days for activation and bringing it back, they told me they would take it back without charging my a restocking fee. The iPhone experience has left me disgusted with Apple and I vow I will never buy another product from them again.
