I am an AT&T customer, I waited 15 hours and no activation after several phone calls to ATT customer service and a store visit, I returned the I-Phone. I had to pay a $49.99 restocking charge. They told me that was the ONLY WAY to get me phone service back (My cell phone is my main phone).

I was not able to reach Apple support at all, just "all ... are busy, please call back later". I love my Mac, but this was a disappointing experience with Apple and "The New AT&T".

i've been waiting since around 9pm last night its now 9:23pm the following day.
OVER 24 HOURS
i waited in line 3 hours.
been on the phone over 5 hours.
going back and forth between apple and Cingular/AT&T.
at first was going to port my number from T-Mobile over, but that seemed to be what was holding everyone up,
so instead got a new number and want to port it over later.
but even still.
all i get are "your information had an error"
but the reps say there is none.
apparently theres an east coast server glitch?
im in FL.
24+ hours now.

I'm on 27 hours+ now with the wait here in NYC. Switching over from Verizon. This certainly ranks as the worst Apple experience i have had in 25+ years of use.

I second everyones statements - $600 for a 2 day wait is a terrible reflection of the future of this ATT and Apple marriage and has left a long term tarnish on my feelings toward Apple and their 'new age' of products. They should void all of the activation charges for iPhones as a sign of solidarity.

I find it particularly galling when people respond that we should all "have patience" and understand that there are glitches with new launches, etc. I paid $600 for an Apple phone and signed a 2-year contract with ATT. IF I DID MY JOB LIKE THIS, I WOULD BE FIRED. This is what really infuriates me. I can't make excuses for screwing up this badly at work and not lose customers and/or my job. Why should we cut Apple and ATT ANY SLACK AT ALL?! Are they going to cut me some slack if I'm a few days late paying my bill?

Wow. 30 hours. You posted at 7:30 PM. Did you buy your phone at noon on ?Friday?

HOwever, I understand what you are saying. Over 24 hours is a joke. The excuses of "high volume" by AT&T is even more of joke. Was this a surprise to them?

An actual working number is 877-419-4500 for the newer ATT at least gets you through to someone. Unlike the other numbers that state that customer service is closed for the weekend or the number which says they are doing "maintenance on the customer management system". Joke.

I'll be interested in seeing on how the blame here works out. Right now it seems like AT&T has the black eye.

HA!!! I have been waiting 26 hours now! Beat that. And after talking to the THIRD AT&T customer nonservice person today he told me that the department I need to contact has such a high call volume that he can't even connect me to a line to hold for them and suggested I call back tomorrow.... Now that's what I call excellent service. Are you regretting this decision yet Steve? Cause I'm starting to regret my decision to wait in line for 11 hours only to have to wait at the counter for 45 minutes for the cashiers to figure out the process, then wait another 26 - or more - hours to actually use something that I overpaid for in the first place. HELLO!!!!

I'm way past 30 hours. Spoken to 9 AT&T customer Care, Activation or Migration team folks (as well as going into an AT&T store). I have already received the confirmation email saying that my activation is complete, my wi-fi, iPod, Camera, etc works, but my cell phone number will not link up. From what I understand it's because I was on the 'Legacy' network (used by the former AT&T wireless phones... before they became cingular). Apparently migrating over is 'supposedly' causing the issue (even though I explained it to everyone under the sun and they were unable to fix it).

When my phone actually works, I'll probably cry tears of joy.
