How do I text message multiple people at once?

I want to send a text message out to a bunch of people in my address book but I seem to only be able to send a message one at a time. Is there a way for me to send a message to a bunch of people at once?

thanks

I do have a workaround for you to text multiple people. I need to do this also, and currently the SMS feature only allows one at a time, so you need to find out what the person you are trying to text uses for their cell provider, then a little research to find the carriers email. Example, AT&T still works with the old Cingular email, so if your friends mobile number is 111-222-3333 you would want to add an email address into their address card with the following...

1112223333@mms.mycingular.com

Sending an email to that address will send it as a text message. Since you CAN email multiple people from the phone, this is how I am currently doing it. Also, doing it this way, you can attach photos to the email, and send it to them via text as well.

Hope this helps a little!

Here's a couple of popular email addresses...

T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net
Virgin Mobile: phonenumber@vmobl.com
Cingular: phonenumber@mms.mycingular.com
Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com
Sprint: phonenumber@pm.sprint.com
Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com
US Celluar: phonenumber@uscc.textmsg.com

where phonenumber = your 10 digit phone number

Thanks Paul, that's a great workaround.. I'm in no way trying to belittle your comment, but for some reason I keep picturing this conversation when asking my friends what carrier they are on:

Them: - Why do you need my carrier?
Me: - So I can message you and our group from my new iPhone.
Them: - You're telling me your shiny, $600 iPhone can't send a simple little text message to more than one person?
Me: - (pause) (looks at the floor) ...so

PowerBook G4 12", iPhone Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Well ****. Some work around. I really cant honestly believe iPhone went live without group SMS.

Anyway, So, let me get this straight -- $600 and I have to write down 10 of my friends phone numbers (cause I cant copy and paste the address on iphone either), convert it to some email address and type out 10 numbers plus a domain just to send out a group message.

Argh, ill just call. lol

There is actually a better work around. Isn't that weird that we're sharing tips on how to work around our phone. Shouldn't our phone be working around us? LoL.

Anyway, I have a VBall team that I like to send mass messages to as well. So I created an account at http://www.zemble.com/ and then I created a group called VBall with the phone numbers for the people in that group. Now I just message vball@zemble.com from my phone and it messages all my group members.

Hope that helps and hopefully I won't have to do this anymore after Apple's next update.
