I had that one, Griffen Elan, and with the screen in, it slipped out several times. Screen out, it worked pretty good. But I returned it because I was too nervous it would slip out again. I eneded up, after 4 different cases, with the Case-Mate Signature Leather. It snaps very tightly to the belt clip, and rotates 360 degrees. I don't like the case out, but they have a holster for the case coming out on the 10th that will allow me to carry the iPhone screen in. Here is the link: http://www.case-mate.com/phones/apple

take care,

I ordered this case yesterday:

I only read one bad review of it that said the front of the case kept popping off, but I'm willing to give it a try. Most of the other cases I'd like to try aren't even shipping yet, but I'll list the ones I found:

1-10, I'd give the Case-Mate an 8. Nice leather, good clip, pretty good retention. I'd like to see a little lip over the top of the phone; bump to 9. Change the clip to a long all in one belt clip; bump to 10. In comparison with the others I tried - they all ranked below 5; 3-4. You can order it on-line or, like I did, go to an ATT store and buy it off the shelf.

Overall I have to say that I am pretty dissapointed with the case options available. There seems to a million to choose from, but few that really do the job well. The device is new, so I won't give up.

I bough that case and returned it when I accidentally figured out how to get the phone out. Once you put the iPhone in the case, it's close to impossible to remove the phone to the point of breaking the case. It suggests to slide out the phone: the angle is too tight and it was close to scratching the screen.

Highly not recommended and stay clear from this case!

I agree. I bought one when I got the iPhone last week, mostly because I didn't want to use it without any case at all. You're right: it's very difficult to remove the iPhone. Plus, the belt clip feels very flimsy.

I'm holding out for a leather case with some padding to protect the iPhone when I drop it. Ideally, I'd like one similar to the case that I bought for my Sony PDA six years ago. It was pricey (about $71 with shipping), but worth every penny. I just checked the company's Web site ( http://www.vajacases.com) - they make an iPhone case, but it looks like you have to remove the phone to use it. They apparently have more designs on the way, though.

(The funny part is that the iPhone with the clear case fits almost perfectly in my Vaja case! I think I may use it that way until they come out with a flip case that's specifically designed for it.)

I found this one at Fry's. It's for a Q or BlackJack, but it fits the iPhone perfectly. The magnetic flap does a great job of keeping it closed. The cutouts match the side buttons and the top button, or if you flip it, the earbud jack. I was think of using a leather punch to add a hole so you just drop it in one way for access to all the buttons except for the home button. I also ordered a ShieldZone kit as well.

Best of all, it was $14.99.

I purchased a Contour iSee with my iPhone on opening night 6-29. I like the case, but agree with several earlier posts here that the holster was a bit loose. My iPhone was easily knocked out. I read on iLounge that Contour had addressed the issue in a later production run. I contacted Contour and they were kind enough to send me a replacement iSee. The new holster is tighter, so the iPhone should not be knocked out so easily. Hats off to Contour for their great customer service The clear case has protected my iPhone from several drops and falls to the ground, with no damage to the iPhone. Great product!

(The new Showcase for the iPod looks awesome.I also have a Contour Showcase for my 4G iPod and have been very pleased with it.)

I bought that one when I bought my iPhone the second day iPhones went on sale. The thin plastic portion of the clip where it attaches to the swivel peg snapped last week and almost lost my iPhone over an escalator railing. While the case worked great for me until it broke, I DO NOT recommend buying this case.

If Griffin replaced that portion with metal, or a more robust attachment point assembly, this case would be one of the best. Until then, don't risk your iPhone with this one.

I spent a great deal of time researching cases. My requirements for an ideal case were:
1) a sturdy belt clip (for while I’m biking to work)
2) does not slip out of the case easily (same reason as above)
3) access to all the buttons and plugs, including the dock (I use iMuff wireless headphones with my iPhone and the transmitter connects into the 30-pin dock)
4) sufficient protection for when I drop it
5) a cover to protect the screen from scratches, but not a skin I would need to press through to use the iPhone

I can confirm there are many cases available. I read every discussion on cases I could find to assess the good and bad aspects of each.

I purchased a Sena Dockable Case.

http://www.senacases.com/

I have used it for two weeks and it has met and exceeded my expectations. For each of my requirements, I found:

1) Complaints about belt clips stated the clips would come loose from the case or would not hold well on the belt, or pants without belts. I wear beltless shorts on the bike and this case holds it securely. The Sena case has a sturdy clip that locks onto the case and allows it to turn 360 degrees. Pushing a very secure button on the clip will allow removal of the clip which is good when I want to carry it in my pocket and not look like a geek walking around with it on my waistband.
2) Reports said some cases stretched out with use, especially after removing it and reinserting it into the case numerous times, which allowed the iPhone to slip out unintentionally. With the Sena case, there is no need to remove it from the case. All the buttons and slots are accessible when it’s in the case. It has a flap to wrap around the front of the iPhone and secures with a magnet at the bottom, assuring it cannot accidentally slip out. I read reports that magnets on cases might interfere with the electronics, but I have had no problems.
3) There are openings on the case for the Ring/Silent and Volume buttons as well as openings for the headphone jack, 30-pin dock, speaker and microphone. The flap covers the Sleep/Wake button, but if you press on the case over that button, it will respond easily. Of course you can also easily open the flap to press the button. I haven’t removed the iPhone from the case since I got it. I can stick it in the doc with the case on or connect the USB to 30-pin slot to charge and sync it in the case. Some reports had concerns about having the dock slot exposed because it might get dirt or something in it. Sena makes a case which covers the slot, but then it would need to be removed from the case for connecting it to charge. I haven’t had a problem with that either and I stick my headphones transmitter in it every day and put it in the dock every morning when I get to work.
4) The case is a sturdy and durable leather (I sweat a lot riding the bike but the case doesn’t show it). Of course I haven’t tested to see if dropping it with the case would break the phone, but it seems very well protected.
5) A flap covers the screen and opens easily to expose all the iPhone controls. I read some cases covered the only button on the front, but everything is easily accessible with the Sena case. I was unsure about the flap cover, but it has been no problem, and meets my requirement of protecting the screen. The flap was a little stiff at first, but after a short time using it, it flips up and stays out of the way when using the screen controls or talking on the phone, including full function of the face contact sensor (a reported problem with other cases).

I wasn’t really interested in the aesthetics of any case, but the leather fabric and construction of this case make it stunningly attractive. They make it in 10 different colors and a couple of 2-tone versions. I got the navy blue.

If the belt clip is your primary concern, I can attest this one works extremely well, even going over bumps and potholes and getting on and off the bike. You may not be as interested in my other requirements, but it has been perfect for me. I can’t think of anything I don’t like about it.

My question is for Bruce Etnyre,

They don't show a picture of the dockable case with the belt clip on it on the Sena webpage. Does the case stay snug to the body when wearing it on your waist? If you wear a shirt untucked, does it look like you have a phone on your hip? Just wondering because I have a nice InCase leather case and, although I have to remove it to dock my iPhone, it is barely noticeable when I wear my shirt untucked and have it on my hip.

I am considering purchasing the red/black or green Sena case.
