Recharging best practices?

Anyone have some best practices for iPhone recharging? For example, is it a bad thing to leave the iPhone in the cradle at night if it's fully charged?

i do a couple of things to help maintain the battery life. such as turning the brightness off. espically if your in a lighted workspace you dont realize how far you can turn your brightness down and still see clear. i started doing this and quickly noticed an extra 10 hrs of time. i also hit the sleep/wake button when not in use and this also adds around 3hrs. this will not work well if you are constantly hitting the button because the more the screen turns on and off the more battery needed to operate. my phone normally last two days and yes i use it frequently. once it needs a charge i pop it in overnight and leave it on until the next morning and thus far no problems. for those who have had their iphone since it came out be sure you understand your battery doesn't continusely charge up to 100% over time it will deplete to around 80% and stay there. if your battery dosn't last at least a day there is something wrong with it.

My iPhone worked great and then seriously overnight it went from needing to be charged every couple of days to dead as a door nail by 4pm. (started day with full charge). I can only hypothesize what would cause this INSTANT change.
*Bad battery
*I have a car charger.... I won't use it ever again, although I RARELY use it and never leave it in the charger for very long.
*I don't have a 2.0 USB hub

Anyway, happy store, I went down to the apple store and their genius' were all booked up, but I was able to wait about half an hour for someone to miss their appointment, they looked at it for about a minute, gave me a new iPhone and I was out the door in 5 minutes. Plugged into my itunes, EVERYTHING was back. I love it!

Hey Everyone!

I just got my iPhone, charged it while it registered, and waited for it to tell me that it was finished. I took it off the charger at about 2pm. It is now noon the next day and the iPhone is almost dead. Is this a battery malfunction, or does it need more charges to become fully functional?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have had an iPhone every since day one. I have had every other type of device out there. Motorola Q, Palm Treo, Blackberry, and enough Nokia cell phones to choke a horse. My iPhone gets just as good of a charge and lasts as long as any of the others did. I managed the issuing of phones for a company I worked for, and everyone complained about batteries in cell phones no matter what brand they had. Lithium-Ion is a great technology but I'm sure something better will come out some day. My wife and I both leave our phones on the chargers at night and use them through out the day. I have a car charger and if I am on the phone for a long period of time I plug it in. If you are trying to compare the run time between an iPhone and a Nokia 6230 or Motorola Razor then you are not giving it a fair comparison. Those phones offer none of the features that the iPhone offers and if they did you would be using them. If you are not happy with the phones battery life then take it back and keep taking it back until you are satisfied. At least there are Apple stores to take them back to. Have you ever tried to get a problem resolved with Palm? "Nightmare!" I am not writing this to gripe at anyone. Just to make people think about what they are complaining about. If you have a problem then go to Apple, and keep going until it is resolved to your satisfaction. They are going to do as well if not better than anyone else in the industry. I hope this helps someone...as I post this from my iPhone with 3% battery left. LOL Just kidding!

Don't dispair, but don't wait. Take the phone and pack it up with all the original packaging. Proceed to immediately to your Apple Store and trade it for a new one! I've purchased 4 iPhones for my family in the last 8 months and two were faulty right out of the box. Bad battery on one and bad battery plus other wierd stuff (random calling etc.)on the other. The tech people checked the problem gave me a new iPhone immediately. Also, don't worry about changing out the SIM card. You'll have to go thru the authorization procedure again anyway. Hey what the heck it is afterall a COMPUTER!

B

I traded my blackberry for an iPhone and have regretted the act since mostly because of the incredibly short battery life.
I leave my iPhone in the cradle at night, and leave it in the 'sleep' mode with Wi-Fi and bluetooth (and mail checking) off. Rarely listen to music or watch videos, because I can't (because of short battery life.)
I don't talk on the phone very much, mostly use my home phone.
I, too, keep the phone on charge, even in the car.
I've taken it back only to hear, "They all do that."
The longest I can get out of my iPhone is 16 hours before it needs recharging....
Wish I had my faithful Blackberry back...

I am thinking of buying an iPhone. I currently use my phone all day in place of anyother phone. I make lots of calls as I am in sales. I wanted the iphone so I could replace my PDA which I get e-mail on. In other words replace two items with one. How long can I expect the battery last under these conditions, many phone calls and e-mail though edge all day long.

..had same problem, battery last only few hours on standby and only 45 min if entering data. I called apple customer service, friendly and promptly the exchange was no issue at all.
Well to my surprise my second iphone holds the battery life just a few extra more hours. I had to buy in total three chargers (office, home and car) so I will not run out of power while on the iphone. Great phone poor parts.
