Recharging best practices?

Anyone have some best practices for iPhone recharging? For example, is it a bad thing to leave the iPhone in the cradle at night if it's fully charged?

Same problem here. I use the iPhone since early December and the battery lasted several days before it needed to be recharged, despite listening to music now end then, making lots of calls and playing around with it. We now have end of February and the battery does not even last throughout a single day.

Unplug it at 8am, listen to music on the way to work (30 min) and not use it for the rest of the day. At 5pm I already get the message that battery level is below 20%. Bluetooth and WiFi are disabled; Network coverage is good, so its not searching for signal; It does not automatically connect to the internet to check mail; etc...

My model was manufactured in week 44, 2007 and I'd like to see what dates the other iPhones are made that have that same problem. This thread being the number 4 of all discussions means there is something going on...

I had and still have several other phones which even after 3 years don't show much sign of a shortened battery life and they all stayed connected over night.

I bought my phone a little before Christmas. I must say, I am really disappointed in the batter life.

I have had my phone run out of battery completely a few times. Granted, when I have recharged it I have just plugged it straight into the wall, without the dock. I'm going to try it tonight while in the dock to see if that helps.

While at work I use the iphone's ipod feature almost the whole shift. An 8 hour shift, taking 2 15 minute breaks and a half hour break. Usually during the half hour break I'll take my phone out to my car and have it plugged in while I listen to the radio.

My phone WILL NOT make it through my one 10 hour shift. I'll use the ipod, and occasionally surf the net.

On another note, I just had my phone in stand-by for about 2 hours and the battery had lost nearly 1/4 of it's power. I was doing nothing with it, it was just sitting there. I'm thinking it may be searching for signal alot of the time because I'll recieve a text message sometimes 1-2 hours after it was really sent.

**DO NOT drain your battery completely prior to charging the iPhone battery. Go to Apple’s website and read about Lithium polymer batteries and Apple’s recommendations to extend battery life. In the old NiCad and NiMetal Hydride battery days, the idea of draining the battery is correct. These batteries developed memory. A lithium polymer battery is a different animal. It needs to have its electrons moving. Completely draining a lithium polymer battery can actually shorten its battery life.**

So, I cycled my phone last night. Drained the battery around 10, woke up at 9 for work and turned on the phone. I didnt do anything with it until about 10-10:30 when I started to listen to music. Since then I have listened for about an hour and a half and am currently using EDGE to type this and my battery is already nearly half gone.

I believe I killed my warranty because I had to take my phone apart to fix a jammed sleep button when I dropped it and the apple store wouldnt fix it.

Any suggestions??

doesn't leaving the phone plugged in after it's already been charged (little plug on the batt icon instead of the bolt) doesn't that "cook" the battery in a way? I saw that with my first iPod.

I got this 16 pin ipod charger from ebay and I can charge it and surf while laying in bed, when I charge it I remove it from a clear Griffin case (case keeps the heat in)

maybe having a better network than edge would help, so we don't spend so much time waiting for pages to load.

I wonder what Jobs and Wozniak say about this whole battery deal if anything they have to listen to iPhone users and offer a solution other than swapping our batteries for other ones that are just as bad.

BTW my batt died just from scrolling down this thread couple days a go.

honestly from the time that i bought i noticed the best way to prolong your battery life is to minimize the brightness to the lowest possible, just enough for u you to be able to see. Because just like our laptops once u increase the brightness it decease battery percentage. I promise this will improve your battery life..............

I was very disapointed this morring when i got news that enterprise mail is with microsoft exhange and no new apps will be added for corporate mailings and calender. I was hoping for better Calender with Task function. and better text massage like MMS . My copany uses Lotus notes and i think that is more popular than microsoft exhange any ways! I guess i give up on SDK and I am going to Jail break my phone and use 3rd party apps anyways! Steve Jobs you are such tease ! by the time you give as the real deal I may have to buy 3 version of iphone right!

I Agree, I have went into the Apple store for many questions regarding my iPhone when i first bought it, and never received ANY helpful advice. In fact I could often answer the questions of other people better than the "geniuses" there. If you call the number, they give you the more helpful and less time consuming advice. I simply had to revert to a older phone software (1.1.2) and then re-install the new one. (part of the download had failed, but not recognized it) and that had messed up my battery software. You are right taht we shouldn't cut down teh whole tree. But Americans have become somewhat lackluster in their basic woodsmanship.

Service, whether face-to-face or via VOIP from India, has become nothing but a joke in this country. Apple is a good company with above average products. And there ARE people smart enough to realize they don't want to lose you as a customer.

People willing to buy at the leading edge of the curve, paying $300 more than a device is worth, are, if not rare, a precious commodity. Apple is smart enough to know this. What they are not smart enough to do is make a linkage between that policy and you the customer. So you have to become the proverbial squeeky wheel. You shouldn't have to, but you do. And until a million or so of your colleagues start doing the same we'll get more of the same.

Heck, fast food restaurants don't even make a pretense that your order will be right. And are almost offended if you ask they be corrected.
