I've noticed a few very small dents on the chrome trim of my iPhone. I use the Incase rubber case that covers the chrome trim, so I'm not sure how they got there. Anybody noticed the same thing?
I placed my cover on my iPhone as soon as I took it out of the box, before I ever activated it. I haven't really looked at my phone without it, but your question prompted me to remove the cover and take a look-see. It is still pristine.. not a dent or scratch anywhere. I got my case from the Apple store without hesitation because I love their (speck's) products.. My case is http://www.speckproducts.com/iphone-toughskin.html and with the additional screen protectors for sell at the Apple store there is no reason why your iPhone should not look as good as it did out of the box for months.
I have some small etchings on my chrome trim as well - not like it is cosmetically disastrous, but still disheartening considering I paid $600 for it. I never really had any problems until I put it into a silicone case - then it appeared that the silicone and dust kept rubbing and rubbing and etched it up...
I am planning on returning my Speck case, that's for sure.
Hmm, you think the case is attracting dust particles which then scratch against the chrome? I'm using the Incase molded rubber case with my iPhone... The rubber wraps around the chrome, right to the edge of the screen... you'd think that would protect the chrome!!
I have the same case right now - just picked one up. Most reviews have said it is wonderful but some say that it severely scratches the rim. I guess you have to be really diligent about making sure nothing gets in that little edge. Otherwise the case is wonderful...
With all of this hullabaloo about cases scratching iPhones, it almost makes you want to carry it bare!
Yep, I definitely think that the Incase molded rubber case is contributing to the etching on the chrome trim... I used that case all day yesterday and a few more of those very small scratches appeared. When I carry the iPhone bare, I don't have the problem.
No matter how careful you are with that Incase, particles are going to find their way under the rubber and they'll rub against the chrome. I'm done using that rubber case.
Very interesting... Do you ever take the iPhone out of the case? Does your Incase have a very tight grip to the iPhone?
The Incase is the only case I've used so far and I've noticed that the small scratches appear when I use it... you have to look very closely to see them. I don't know how else the scratches would appear... I either hold the iPhone or put it in a pocket with nothing else.
I've taken mine out everytime I wanted to dock it, or clean it. I took it out again just now, examined it closely under bright sunlight, and there are no scratches, small or otherwise, on my iPhones' chrome trim.
I know how mine got there! I bought it on the 29th and was at the dentist Saturday morning. I had it in my hand and the next thing I know it's on the ground. oops! Dent #1. I now have a case but I'm sure there will be many more inciDENTS!
I purchased Belkin Acrylic Case, and I don't have any problems. Nice thing about this case is it has a removable belt clip and also you use it as a stand for video viewing, and it is easy access to side controls
I agree. I was so happy with the case when I got it because it was black and not bulky at all. Plus it doesn't have any clips or other bulk. However, after about three days, I noticed the exact same thing. Not sure what the solution is, but that case is not going on my phone any more.
