Error 2131

I have a brand new Dell Lap top and when I try to burn cds it gives me the unknown (2131) error. I have used my burner with other programs so I know that is not it and I have also tried re-installing itunes but that did not work as well. Any one else have this problem? Any suggestions?

That's actually the first time I've seen it on a Dell (although i haven't been doing much working on Importing & Burning issues for a few weeks now). I'd mostly seen it reported on one particular variety of drive on Toshiba models.

Can you post your DVD/CD diagnostics for us please?

Put a music CD in each of your drives. Then, in iTunes, go "Help > run diagnostics ...", select "DVD/CD diagnostics, and paste the complete results into a reply.

All, I went to Dell's Drivers & Downloads site and input the data for my specific Dell model. There was a firmware driver for my laptop's DVD burner (TSST-Firmware: TS-L632H slim 8x DVD+/-RW, Vers D600) that I ran and it fixed the problem. I was able to burn to CD's in iTunes after the firmware update.

There were several other firmware updates for other types of CD/DVD drives as well, so hopefully they have your model's also.

Hope this helps!

I have an inspiron 1501, after looking I found out if you download this file: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releasei d=R173097&SystemID=VOSN1700&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=14182&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid= -1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=32&fileid=235346 from dell and run it it updates the cd drivers allowing users to burn with itunes. The instructions suck so download the file to your desktop. Run the application part and browse the fob file. Run and you are required to restart your computer. I hope that this helps!!

Hi Forum,

A firmware update is the way to go. I did a search on google for "L632H Firmware" which is fine if you don't have an OEM drive. Samsungs website has firmware for many models, but if you're OEM (look at the code after L632H or similar) then it's a manufacturer provided version. On the Advent, the OEM code is TMC0, or was for me... that failed to burn. TMS0 was provided by the tech guys knowledge base.... 5minutes later, I can burn my M4A files direct without conversion.

http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/Firmware/FWDownload/FWDownload.asp?productcode=&languagecode=&SearchMode=TOTALSEARCH&SearchWord=lTS-L632H&image1.x=38&image1.y=11

You'll have to do a search and check your OEM code. If it's not listed, then only the manufacturer can supply the file safely. There are notes about cross flashing the drive, but I wouldn't recommend it personally.

Best of luck.
