BMW Bluetooth problems

For some reason, I'm having problems with my bluetooth connection to my car. I have a 2007 535i with Nav and when I pair the phone, everything works fine. Paired quickly. My numbers are available and I can see the signal strength and so on. However, when I make a call... the audio drops for about 2-3 seconds and then resumes. The caller can hear me but it is as if they are muted and then unmuted. Is anyone having this problem? Should I take my phone back to the store???

You need to increase the volume setting on the iPhone (side keys) to a higher level while on a call using your car BT system. You will probably find that the volume on the iPhone is close to the minimum (but only for your BMW BT settings). I discovered this today, and after setting the volume (again, on the iPhone) to 3-4 notches below max, I now have perfect audio immediately when the far end answers. Before doing this, I had exactly the problem you described (2006 530xiT).

After you set the volume via the iPhone, the iPhone will remember this setting for future calls. You will also notice that you can now adjust the volume up and down via the car stereo volume controls.

After adjusting the volume on the iPhone, I tried the supposed WiFi fix (turning it off). It did make any difference. On or off, the audio quality was no different.

The issue seems to be having the volume set too low on the iPhone.

I have a 2007 BMW X5 and although initially my bluetooth worked fine, like others posting to this thread the connection has degraded. Although resetting the iPhone and repairing it with the car helps in the short term, it doesn't resolve the problem for long.

Having read other's comments on the subject with regard to the iPhone's WiFi interfering with the bluetooth connection I have just tested the theory.

Firstly I should start off by saying that I have been getting a lot of drop outs during calls (i.e. >50%) in many cases I get frustrated and just transfer back to the handset.

Anyway here's what I found. I began a call in the car having previously disabled the iPhone's WiFi transceiver. I had perfect reception with no dropouts at all. Then while the call was still going I turned the WiFi transceiver back on. I instantly had significant dropouts. To be absolutely sure I then reversed the process and once more disabled the WiFi. As I expected the drop outs stopped immediately. Pretty conclusive I'd say.

Just to complete the picture (as a control) I do also use my iPhone with a Jabra BT250V headset and have never had any problems of any kind with it under any circumstances.

From what I've been reading from others it sounds like although BMW have certified the iPhone as fully compatible with the 2007 BMW X5 they are aware that there is a problem on the car side of the connection.

Good luck everyone, hopefully BMW will do the right thing and fix this.
