cd/dvd drive keeps ejecting cd/dvd!!!

My cd/dvd drive is going crazy. Soon after i put a cd or dvd in the drive, it spits it back out. it sounds as though it is trying to read the disc, but fails. My drive was working normal earlier today, then it went crazy?!? i am not too computer savvy...HELP!

I had this exact problem. I bought some air duster by Ixos put the long nozzle on the can and gave it a good spray into the cd drive and this resolved the problem. Now I can play my cd's on my mac book and use i tunes. I don't believe this has worked but it did.

I'm having the same issue. I insert even a retail DVD and it spits it back at me. Anyone else ask AppleCare about this?

I have the same computer as all of the above and today I began having the same problem when I insert CDs and DVDs- anyone know what to do?

I put it a lens cleaner disk today.. the drive literally tore fibers off of the disk as it spun, then spat it out. I made an appt at the Genius Bar for tomorrow night. I'll post what they say.

Genius Bar tested a movie DVD, a CDR, DVDR and apple install disk. When some worked, others didn't, they offered me a new optical drive. It will be ready to pick up at my apple store in 1-2 days.

Hmm, actually after restarting the problem is back...

So I'm none the wiser... Will ring AppleCare back!

Most frustrating, I'm a music journalist, I need to insert CD's!

In the end I got a new drive under Apple Care.

To me, it rinforces the importance of getting AppleCare.

Panasonic's ToughBooks better have this problem too, then.
