checkered pattern on screen

Is anyone here noticing a checkered pattern of white dots? (Go into a dark place and turn the brightness on full then look at a black screen you should see it if you have this problem) does anyone think this a problem possibly in the future or can this just be fixed with a software update?
PS: I've seen some phones with this problem and some without.

My question is has anyone notices the difference from the "take apart" photographs? I've looked at a lot of the take-aparts, but most do not have hi-res pictures enough to compare part numbers on the ribbons and connectors.

Anyone notice differences in the components that leads you to think that LCDs come from different manufacturers?

I took my phones (one 5** and one 7**) into my Apple store yesterday, showed them to a "genius". He told me that he thought the 7* looked better and compared them at different brightness levels. He also said that currently LG and Samsung are the two providers of the LCD's - so its pretty much random which one you get. If you want the 5** it seems the best option is to call AppleCare and tell them about the white dots and lack of brightness.

apple doesn't allow you to specify components. It's the same issue with people who prefer hard drives from one manufacturer vs. another.

OMG that was funny!
But phoneorpda had only 7 posts before you put that up, you should check out Howard Forums where he has 7 THOUSAND.

He patiently wades through everyone who attacks him and it really does seem as if he has found something.

If you want to see his pixel by pixel examination of the iphone, check out macrumors. apparently the pixel in column 72 and row 248 is slightly faded in the red spectrum.

no seriously, the guy has a great point.

the problem is - and this is de-personalizing this (honestly) - this is a classic internet echo chamber. The same photos, the same people are driving the story on different sites. Each site references the others as confirmation but they are self-referential: different tendrils growing from the same plant.

There are no simultaneous, multiple, independent, erruptions of the same issue. Rather, there are simultaneous, multiple, non-independent erruptions of the same people. You are driving the issue, and because you are doing it on multiple sites, you are creating the illusion of multiple reports.

Furthermore, after reading some of these tendrils, it turns out that the people who are most bothered by screen variations from different vendors tend to exchange their iPhones multiple times for multiple other reasons.

I have a 7 screen and it looks great. I watch videos on it. My friends marvel at the quality. It is more than what I expected. I am sure that over time, screen quality and resolution will continue to improve, and multitouch will become even more stealth and effective. But as is, I'm more than satisfied with the way mine looks, tiny-white-dots-visible-under-an-electron-microscope-when-tilted-at-a-45-degree -angle and all.

I am not blindly defending Apple. I think there are enough genuine issues with version 1 that need to be fixed. But this is a red herring in an echo chamber ...amber ...amber ..mber ..ber ..er ..er ..er ..r.

if it bothers you, exchange it. But don't keep exchanging it. Then it's no longer about the iPhone, it's about allowing inconsequential imperfection from poisoning your enjoyment of something worth enjoying.

The perfect is the enemy of the good.

Please don't loose sleep over this.

the problem is shared by different people.

as i said multiple times, it is more obvious to users who switched their phone for repairs and went from a model 5 * to a 7 *

you can completely happy with your 7 * screen, that's coo, and i am happy for you.

the truth is that there is a difference in how they display colors, specifically blacks.

I have both models here at home , so i could load the same videos on both and compare.
The difference is more than obvious, to anybody that i asked to take a look.

Now, it seems to be a common problem: some 7 * screens show it more than others, it's true, but it's pretty obvious it's the 7 * screens which are having an issue.

echo chamber or not, i am glad the issue is getting out there.

i have never complained about a product before in my life.
I noticed a big difference between my replacement and this 7 * model.

i think it's fair that i ask for a reason, or see if i am the only one.

It turns out there are a lot of other people that think the same way i do and see the same issue, most of them have been able to compare the two.

some of them kept on talking crap about me and told me to get a life, then they either received a loaner from apple with the 5 * screen, or compared it to somebody else's, and wrote me back to apologize.

you can think your 7 * is great.fine but have you compared it to a 5 *?

maybe your 7 * has no issues, in which case i am glad.

i believe this is an issue that apple has to address.

i love my iphone regardless, but i don't want to feel that the replacement i got is inferior to the one i bought in the store.

Munitalp - Did they exchange the phone for you?

We have both a 5 and 7 here. Big difference. The 7 is far superior in calibration/tone/detail/gamma, etc. etc.
The 5 is flat out harder to read for me.
I want to swap it for a 7. But I doubt they'd let me.

We should have swap parties. If anyone knows any store with 7's in stock in Illinois, I'm all ears.

But the problem is less obvious to anyone who has switched to an iPhone from any other phone ever made. The iPhone feels like such a gigantic step forward, that this is like comparing shoelaces on the shoes on the feet that made the giant step. In fact, the problem doesn't even seem to be a problem for anyone that hasn't read about it in one of your threads, and then applied the same lens of comparative microscopic examination. And even then, there are different opinions as to which is better, the 7 or the 5.

That’s not true. You are too good at it. People don’t get this good at something without a little experience. You are the iPhone of complainers. The iPhone of iPhone complainers!

Your virtuosity in pursuing this is impressive and I don't mean to belittle it just because I don't share your concern. If there is an observable difference between two versions of the same phone, as inconsequential as that difference might be to most people, as long as its important to you, you should get the one you want!
