checkered pattern on screen

Is anyone here noticing a checkered pattern of white dots? (Go into a dark place and turn the brightness on full then look at a black screen you should see it if you have this problem) does anyone think this a problem possibly in the future or can this just be fixed with a software update?
PS: I've seen some phones with this problem and some without.

macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

The otherday I went to the Apple store and played with about 10 of the demo iPhones, 8/10 were dark with the "checker pattern". So it seems like alot of people probably have the darker ones.

Mine is also a 7XXXX model and does NOT have the grids or dots. All is black and perfect...no issues at all

Nothing present on white screen either, still clear and good to go.
