Cracked iPhone Glass!

Well today has pretty much been the worst day of my life. I have a beautiful $600 iPhone that slipped out of my hands today while taking it out of my house for the first time (of course, only my luck) and it cracked the glass into many pieces (that are still intact within the phone). If anyone has any idea what I can do, I've had it not even a week and was literally on my way to buy a case and this happened, I would appreciate some help. What kind of warranty is there, how much will it be to replace the glass screen (do we even need a glass screen since there's another plastic or something screen underneath it). I purchased this online through the Apple store so there's no Apple stores near me or even ATT stores. Anyone who can help me please do so, this cracked screen is unbearable!

Well I got off the phone with tech support and even got them to get me to a product specialist who told me it would be $249 to fix it. Yeah, there's no way that's happening so I guess I will just have to live with my cracked iPhone. What good is a warranty when it just costs me as much as just eBaying it and then taking the money to buy a new one? Oh well, maybe I'll just try the Apple Store when I visit New York for vacation.

Did you read my previous reply? About $250 for Apple repair, but you could do it yourself for $100?

Regards.

Someone else just went through that here. Something like $250 to get it fixed by Apple.

If you're willing and able to do it yourself, the company in this how-to-video sells the LCD and touchscreen together for $99. Would have to ask if that includes the glass front as well, but seems to be considered part of it.

lets examine this

Problem one, they never turned the iPhone off during the demo
Problem two, it voids the warrenty
Problem three, 9 out of 10 people will break the phone doing this

PEOPLE DONT EVEN CONSIDER THIS ONE to save $150

Calm down 🙂

I constantly take cell phones apart and replace parts. If you're not handy with things, then don't do it. If you are, then it's not nearly as hard as it looks.

There are some people who cannot afford the full $250+ for repairs. If Apple won't replace their screen under warranty, then their choice is to either throw away the phone or try a DIY fix.

They're the ones I'm addressing, not the ones who can afford the full repair price.

My dad dropped my iPhone shortly after I bought it and cracked the glass display. I took it back the next day and they replaced it for free, although they said they wouldn't normally do that. It's made me real nervous about breaking the new one, and I'm trying out my third case soon (an iSkin case is on it's way). I'd just advise everyone to get a case that can protect the display, as these things do break and once we pass the early adopter phase I am sure Apple will stop replacing broken phones.

From what I understand, iPhone DIY is virtually impossible.

Nothing is impossible. Granted, some people are out of their league changing a light bulb. But plenty of others have no problem doing intricate fixes. They might watch the video and say, hey that's not hard.

People already are doing their own custom rear case replacements (that's more difficult to me), there are DIY battery replacement kits, etc. There are always people who can do these things.

The point is, that's up to each person.

Its not a calm down thing
First you are only saving $150 doing it this way, while risking a $600 phone
Second, your warrenty is now null and void for any issues

To even consider this is foolish and stupid, you know if you want to do this you do it, but dont talk these people into doing this with a good chance of a outcome to destroy their phone

And even more so, this would be classified as a hack, so posting this is against the TOS of the website...

Finally after looking at that site, I dont trust them, awful coding, do third graders own that or tards...
