MacBook Pro Sleep/Wake from sleep problem

As of today I have been experiencing a strange problem with my MBP. I can't wake my MBP when I open the screen although the machine is running. I also realized that I can't put it to sleep mode when I select it from the menu. Also, strangely, when I close the display to put it in sleep mode, the light stays on, instead of blinking. I already reset the power manager and the parameter RAM. I also have all my software updated. Any help would be appreciated.

Kind of glad to see I am not the only one suffering with the dreaded MBP sleep issues! I tried all the usual resetting of the PRAM, set the Hibernate mode to 0, deleted PWM config files etc and was gutted to see the problem still existed always and predictably on the second time it was put to sleep.

Having re-enabled my Ethernet and so far the problem seems to be fixed!! I have opened and closed the lid 5 times and it wakes and sleeps instantly.. just like the good ol' days!

It must be a software update that causes this because I have had my Ethernet disabled and not had any sleep issues until recently.

Anyways, thanks to vanessa77 for posting up a fix. I can't believe Apple have not done anything to rectify this problem!

Well this works but i own a macbook pro platinum with os x 10.5.7 and i've used this to keep my network connection active (USB modem) while lid down (clamshell).
So i had to turn off sleepmode but i would like to keep it active.
Also tried hibernatemode 0 but is the same as hibernatemode 3(default) for what i want.
Could sleepmode be disabled only when on charger?

Also, turning lid down with the disablesleep 1 disables also the keyboard lights but if you open lid back those lights keep off thogh i've stumbled on possible workaround: connect or disconnect and connect the charger cable.

Hi All,

Thank you for the posts, I have the same problem with my macbook pro 2.16 ghz.
Everything works fine, untill i close the lid and it goes to sleep mode.
I head to change the hibernation settings from 3 -> 0. And i tried this, but no success.

What else do you recommend me to do, I read a post about the Ethernet disable, how should i do that? Do you advice me to upgrade my OSX from 10.4 to a later version?

thank you very much
looking forward to your posts.

also having sleep wake issues as others are reporting. MBP late 2008
You mention disabling Ethernet.
I am wireless,via Airport.
Are you suggesting turning off Airport or any internet connectivity before putting MBP to sleep?
That does not feel right for a Mac, to have to go through those distortions.

Wondering if this is a 10.5.8 related issue? I seem to have been fine with earlier versions of 10.5

I came across this incredibly long list of posts from lots of people with the MBP sleep issue while searching for some info concerning mine which is re-occurring despite having had the Logic Board replaced by an Apple Genius!! I'm going to try some of the fixes suggested here (Ethernet enable if in Airport-only mode, reverting to older sleep mode) and see what happens before contacting Apple again (my MBP has AppleCare). Not only are Apple not responding to this issue, but they don't seem to be informing their own Tech people about it, so they are doing expensive things like replacing logic boards under AppleCare.

Had this problem and driving me crazy. Just made no sense. Then I wondered how does the system know when to sleep and I figure something on the lid. It couldn't be so simple as the sensor was dirty. Turned a bright light on in the room and wow it came on instantly. Put the system to sleep and then turned the light off in the room. System wouldn't wake. Did this a couple times to confirm that it was in fact the problem. Very predictable on my mac. I felt like a dope. Put the computer to sleep again. Grabbed the windex and cleaned my screen. Light still off in the room and now it wakes and sleeps as it should. I don't know if this is everyones problem but this was 100% my problem and sounds much like what I have read in these posts. Hope it helps someone.
